Hi all, I have been reading that the bumper guide should be as close to the blank as possible. I use mostly Fuji BHNLG guides. I usually use a 20 or 16 stripper guide and run all eights from there. ( these are all saltwater rods rated 15-25 at the least so I don't use 6's much). So the question is what type of guide should I use as bumper guide that is low profile?

Ok that may be the problem! I use no tension as the Madeira spool doesn't fit in my pac bay thread carriage thing. I will also try putting a better edge on the burnisher. Thanks for all the input this is really helpful info

Hi all I am asking if anyone knows of a burnisher that works well for Madeira thread. I power wrap thread on and burnish at the same time. I find it effective and efficient. However this works well with thread size a or larger but I can't get it to work with Madeira thread using my plastic green burnisher. Any ideas? I love the color selection of this thread but if I have to spin the blank a few

Hi everybody. I have been reading about a blank that seeker makes or made called a montauk cod special. I was wondering if they still make this blank I can't find anyone who has it. Is it discontinued or was it the early seeker Hercules? Thanks for any info!

I want to thank everyone that helped me with the heat source questions of the last thread I posted. I ended up using 18 inch bar under cabinet lighting. I installed four 18 inch bars with 3 twenty watt halogen bulbs each. Hopefully this will bring box to temp. Only question is what temp should I bring it to. I have heard 70, 72, 80, 90 and over 100 degrees. I am now using pro kote which requires

I have built 2 super seeker rods and three super seeker hercules rods. I prefer the regular super seeker for black fish because it is a softer blank. By that i mean it gives more, softer tip section and a moderate action (but still powerful). I find the hercules blanks to be more stiff with a fast action. I feel that people miss a lot of blackfish because they use stiff rods and braid. I would ar

Roger thank you for all the input and taking the time out to post everything! I appreciate all the advice however I have taken Mark's approach and bought halogen under cabinet lighting. They are two strips of three 20 watt lights and I can connect a third or even a fourth if the box doesn't get hot enough. It was a much more expensive way to go but I feel worth it. Buy the way plexiglass is crazy

ok so it does look like most people are using light bulbs to heat the boxes. The only problem is i have no idea how to hook the light bulbs up. I'll start looking but any suggestions helpful. Thanks again! Thanks also for the space heater suggestion but that sounds complicated. I need a low IQ solution thanks though!

Hi everybody I looked at pics of rod drying boxes on the photo page and I think I can build one. My question is how to heat it . I saw that someone suggested low what light bulbs but my electric knowledge is poor. Has anyone tried a pipe heater or anything else. The room temp is now 54-58 degrees. It's the only spot I got so I need to heat box to at least 74 degrees. Thanks once again!

i feel dumb. i think someone secretly replaced my brain with Folger's crystals. Let me restate some things. Currently I only build saltwater rods. I fish braid with a mono top shot so the guides need to be at least a size eight to pass the albright knot. I am using a simple spiral kind of but instead of using a 20-16-12-10-8-8-8 and placing a low profile 8 in between the 20 and 16 at 90 degre

Hi everybody, I have a few questions about the difference between the "revolver" and bumper wrap method. I believe a revolver wrap means that you would start with the stripper guide at 180, then the next guide at 90, then the next at 45 and fourth at zero. (please forgive me if my definition is wrong). Secondly the bumper method as i have sen it defined is the stripper guide at 180, t

Well I don't know why but I had a very different experience with what I assume is the original formula flex coat light that was not indicated to be more uv resistant. Many of the rods built with silver under wraps look terrible as the finish has turned an amber color. It also turned very quickly like two or three days in the sun. I enjoy the application of both pro kote and flex coat light but

Hi all I recently bought pro kote finish and tried it for the first time. I love everything about it except it didn't dry very hard. I can push my thumb nail into wrap and it makes a scrape or dent. I read reviews that pro kote dries " soft" but I can't really figure out what may be human error or the product itself. Is this normal for this product or did I goof? Second question. I w

i just had a question if it is recommended to spiral wrap a parabolic blank. specifically, it is the 350g jigging master blank. also, i have only done one spiral wrap so it is a fairly new concept to me. should i use simple spiral or revolver method? i tried looking into the physics of this but that just made my head hurt. any input is appreciated.
