I made a nice little graphite spinning rod for a friends birthday a few years back. I recently found out that he doesn't fish it because it is a one piece and inconvenient for him to travel with it in his car. Any reason I can't just cut it and install a ferrule? Thanks, Joe

I have had better results using ProKote....it has a longer pot life....that gives me time to let it sit after mixing to allow bubbles to release and still leaves me plenty of working time. The drawback I think, is that it may be a bit softer than Flexcoat on the rod but it has always been crystal clear and bubble free for me.

Pro Kote for me.....longer working time and dries crystal clear. I did not have the best results with Flex Coat....cured very quickly and yellowed in a very short time.

I am glad you weren't hurt worse Randy. My last static line test ended up with a hole in my living room ceiling when the line on an old reel I used to simulate the new reel which had not arrived yet turned out to be dry rotted .. When the wife saw it I just said "Don't ask".

I just built a set of three 80-130 lb class stand up tuna rods for a friend. We started with 5 ft 6in Seeker blanks and cut them down to 48in for use with some Aftco Unibutts. My guy wanted them to look "blacked out" so I hid an underwrap under the guide feet only.. to protect the blank and then double overwrapped the rollers. This guy is a beast and doesn't want to waste time playing

Is awesome! I sent them an inquiry by e mail and got a call back from Chuck in about 20 minutes. He was very friendly and informative and we had a great chat.and I was only asking about an order for one decal. I will definitely be looking to them for decals in the future.

Thanks again guys....the unit arrived the other day and after fashioning a base for it that matches up with my wrapper it works great for my needs. I use the support with the top wheel that came with my AT dryer set up in conjunction with my V Blocks . The pedal gives me better low speed control than I expected. I wouldn't suggest it for somebody wrapping commercially, but it is working well for

Thanks guys...Roger...not to abuse your kindness but...can you give me a little help in what parts I can use to do a 6:1 reduction with pulleys? This set up works with my budget and the limited amount of space available to me for wrapping. ..apartment living is not exactly the best for rod building...I can't have a 6 or 8 ft long power wrapper on my wife's dining room table. I would be sleepin

That is great info Roger...THANKS! I am sure I can fashion top rollers for my rod supports...that should be easy enough. .I believe it is a 5000 RPM motor but I don't ever foresee needing to use it at that speed....I am just trying to speed up my wrapping a bit and have my hands ache a little less after doing 7 or 8 underwraps and maybe a 8 or 9 inch dragon scale wrap on a saltwater rod. maybe

A few years ago I built a hand wrapper......is there any reason I can't buy this power head and attach a base to it and use it with my hand wrapper for under wraps and such? Above is a pic of my wrapper and the powerhead. Thanks All.

Thanks Tom and Roger. I am OK with getting it off ....I guess I am just worried about how it will look when I am done putting it back on. The epoxy runs over the butt wrap...then over a decal and then up and over the stripper guide. I am worried about mating up the new epoxy with the old.

I built a trolling rod for my nephew and used an Aftco HD Wind ON roller for the stripper guide. I put the rollers up the rod....now I am seeing images which tell me that I installed it backwards. The rod has been finished for a few weeks and I am starting on another to match.I don,'t want to build 2 wrong. It has an under wrap of size A metallic and a single overwrap of D nylon NCP.... I am pr

Can someone please tell me the sequence for an Opposite Split Diamond Wrap? I understand color A goes only up the rod left and right and color B down the rod...but what would the sequence be? Sorry if this is a dumb question but this stuff is not intuitive for me. Thanks..Joe
