I am all good on making some reamers....I have a few scrap blanks and a drill clamp.I am just not sure how to anchor a shaft into the blank so I can secure it in the chuck.

Yes Bill.....I saw a great tutorial on that.....fellow was reaming bunches cork rings in seconds with reamers he fabricated from scrap blanks and mounted in his drill. I just don't have that kind of space available to me.

I do tape everything up as I have had some epoxy disasters in the past but after reading the above replies, I think I am guilty of not reaming out my foregrips enough. I am usually working pretty hard to get them in place and squeezing out all of the adhesive I had to apply as a lubricant in the first place.
I think I better invest in a good set of reamers.

I always seem to get some rodbond on my EVA grips that I don't see till it's dry. Before I start sanding......how do you guys like to clean up EVA grips before turning the rod over to the customer?

126. Re: Ferrule is stuck
I might spray it several times with WD40 or penetrating oil...let it sit....spray it again and then tape up the jaws of my channel locks to protect the seat and try to get it off that way.
If it is saltwater corrosion you may have a bigger problem.

I find it very helpful in laying out butt wraps. It holds the rod and allows you to mark crossover points....although with minimal woodworking skills and a router you can make your own.

129. Winding Check
My apologies if this is a dumb question but I never used a winding check before. I am building a saltwater boat rod with an EVA foregrip and it will have a dragon scale butt wrap with a coat of finish..then a spiral or cross wrap on top of that with 2 more coats of finish. My question is this...at what point would you install the winding check? Before the base wrap? After the base wrap but before

131. Re: butt wrap jig
I would give Mudhole a call....the jig is in their latest catalog but not on their new website...which, BTW is so difficult to navigate that I am looking for a new supplier. They lost my order history and you can't find anything.

Thanks John....I really appreciate the info. However.....the customer trolls single strand stainless or monel wire in a different application than I think you are used to. No downrigger....no outrigger.....no dipsy divers and no planer boards. the spoons are weighted and are from 8-15 oz .
A 10 ft 2 piece rod with a 6.5 tip is just not the right tool for the type of fishing my guy does off the

Can anybody recommend a 7' blank that would have the right action to allow a bunker spoon to work properly when trolled with wire line? That also won't break the bank? I know a lot of folks like a longer rod for this application but the guy I am building them for doesn't like to store/transport anything over 7 ft. maybe...I can go to 7'6.
Thanks all.

Hey Randy......the rod in the picture is mine .....I made the securing wrap and over wrap for that guide foot all in one because I figured with the roller/stripper guide I could get replacement parts if necessary. The roller would most likely break before the frame.....is my reasoning.
With large guides like that I also will do a small securing wrap and set the guide foot on top of that and co

What I have done on a few Ugly Sticks with graphite seats that I own is make a few holes in the reel seat under where the reel sits.....mix up a good batch of epoxy.....NOT 5 MINUTE.....and inject it in there....and rotate the seat several times to spread the adhesive. They have stood up for years after that.

Permagloss and Lumaseal are great products but I have trouble with them because they are so hot. The working time is too short for me. I find Gudebrod Rod Varnish gives a nice durable finish on re-builds and it is water based.....just paint it on with a foam brush. I have a few rods I used it on and 3 years later they are still looking good.
I think you can still get it if you look around.

139. Re: yellowing finish
Phil..............there was something wrong with your materials. There is no way the epoxy should take a week to cure and it should not yellow in just a month on the rod. And I have a feeling the problem is only going to get worse with time. Sorry.

A friend inherited this rod and reel.....there is no stamp or markings on it. He believes it is bamboo. Has anybody ever seen one like this before? Know anything about it? Is it worth anything?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Frank,
I grew up trolling single strand stainless wire for bass off the South Shore....we shipped a lot of bass to market before the moratorium. . I still enjoy it and still build some trolling rods for myself. I only know a few guys who stick with the stainless though.....I have a 6'-6" slow action heavy power rod for trolling umbrella rigs...I put a good run of mono leader on it for

146. Thresher Shark Decal
Hi Guys,
I am looking for a thresher shark decal to jazz up a stand up rod I am building for my nephew. I am building 2 and on one I am using an abalone mako decal but I can't find a thresher decal anywhere. Does anybody know where I can get one? I would even use a vinyl one if it was the right size.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Guys,
I am trying to find a few Pac Bay Eliminator stripper guides and tops. I am making 2 rods for a client..(my first paying job)....and showed him one I did with the beefy Pac Bay guides on it....he liked them as he is tough on rods. They have been discontinued and I can't find them.....I even made the mistake of ordering from Johnny's Pond before I found out that they are kind of a scam
