correct me if I'm wrong but underwraps aren't needed for most freshwater builds...I don't think underwraps are needed at all for bass rods

I'm still kind of in the rookie stages of building(under 20 builds under my belt) but I have never used a guide spacing chart for any of those builds...casting rods get rough numbers then are adjusted via static tests...spinning rods get the 27x treatment and then get static tested...

Steven, I have been curious on the wrapping of the top 3 threads. would the order be sacrificial, black, sacrificial? or sac, sac, black? I've done quite a few tigers but never with 2 sacrificials only with 1

i built up a batson xsb783 for casting - micros and spiraled and it is just plain awesome! weighs in at just over 2.5oz - and that is with 4 aluminum winding checks and other bling! just imagine what it would weigh if I made it a plain Jane! this rod is paired with a core 50mg. super lightweight combo and a joy to fish ALL day!

I built a coupleof spincasters for my pastors grand kids not too long ago with minima casting seats. the blanks were cut from 5'6" to 4'. the blank OT was a lot smaller than the smallest minima ID. I used a tape arbor to fill up thegap and then filled up the remaining trigger area with epoxy. I had to let the rod dry resting at 40degrees so that the epoxy would set level with the trigger.

Congrats Josh! I just got married myself over the weekend! The wedding was in MI though. Enjoy it! Good thing my wife supports my obsessions - hope yours is the same way!

Welcome! I would say save your money for a nice wrapper - build yourself a simple wrapper using a cardboard box, phone book for tension and taped on scissors as a thread guide. Then you could spend more money on the stuff that really counts - the blanks and components! Good luck!

With a steady hand and the rod spinning on the dryer, I slowly clean up the excess with the corner of a clean cloth and DNA.

You could try those varigated "rainbow type" metallics. They should give you somehing that would go well with that reel. Good luck!

There was a time that I wanted to use a certain rod blank so bad that I just secured the guides to the blank with surgical tubing. Used that the entire weekend...had a blast catching browns and monster rainbows...it is still sitting in the corner that way...

I myself finish the guides like the first pic. I add enough finish to cover up the threads - making sure there are no bubbles under the wraps - and sloping it onto the blank. Once the finish levels out, I go back and gently and carefully clean up the excess epoxy to give it that clean cut look. Haven't had any issues yet.

11 micros on a 6'6"?! Wow! That's a lot! But that's just me...I try to stay under 10 guides including the top. But it all depends. Like Jason said use just enough so that the line is off of the blank when loaded. Any more than that is just unwanted weight.

I've got 3 casting rods and a spinning rod with 4s on em now. I wanna give the 3s a try. I can't seem to find tops with a size 3 ring. I might just wrap a running guide as a top if I can't find any. I have this ultra lightweight rod build in mind. I am aiming for 2.5oz - no more than 3 oz.

Does any of the component makers make micro tops in ring size 3mm? I can't seem to find any. The smallest I can find is 4. Also, where can I find sizes smaller than 3?

Run out to the local pet store or aquarium fish store and pick up some airline tubing. They come in different id sizes. And it's only a couple bucks for 25ft of tubing

I know that extremely high temps can be bad for graphite, but how about temps in a car? Let's say 80 degrees outside? Maybe around 100 degrees inside the car?
