hey chuck, I'll check when I get home from work. I've built an UL for a patriarch last season.
what blank/lineup are you using? mine was built on a RainShadow RX8 so the blue matches quite well.

I'm doing what I can to steer away from the carbon tube. the customer wants something unique - and I have ideas in mind...

I have a few builds that will require 17-20†rear carbon skinned grips. The customer wants full grips – he’s not a fan of the split. The blanks will be Phenix Black Diamonds.
I am not a machinist, so making my own would be out of the question right now…
So, where or can I purchase mandrels up to 24†in length?
For skinned grips, I use the heat shrink method. I’ve tried the other m

thanks guys for the suggestions.
I'll take a look at those TI rods.
I've been looking at surf blank for some time now but if I go that route I'd be trimming upwards of up to 1' off of the blank...don't want to do that...

I'm in need of a travel swimbait rod. I'll be doing some traveling this year and was wanting to do some swimbait fishing where ill be going. baits will weigh anywhere from 3-10oz. I'll be using either a Calcutta 400 or a Z2020.
any blank suggestions?
thanks

is the rod blank level? are you making sure that you're getting ALL of the sagging finish wicked off?
maybe you're applying too much finish, doing a quick wick here and there, then walking a way too soon?

because it is aluminum, you could have it anodized. IMO that would be better than powder coating. BUT it will also cost more

42. tops in 7.5
does anyone know if there are any micro tip tops with a TUBE size of 7.5/3mm?
if that doesn't exist, how about a 6 ring with a 7.5 tube?
thanks

I think a crane would be perfect for your application. you could probably find a decent one for around 120K.
good luck!

45. Re: Swimbait rod
forgot to mention, i have to take into consideration the weight of the blank itself too. the guy is going to use a Daiwa Ryoga/Pluton on there - 12some oz reel! he doesnt want to be slinging 2+lbs all day...
and, i keep getting questions from the guy so, are there any blanks out there that may be similar in action to a Megabass F8-78DG Super Destruction?

last year i was in Miami and did some p-bass fishing in the canals using shiners. I built 2 MHX SJ782-2's for me and my wife. casting for me and spinning for my wife. they worked well. I think the SJ781 may have been perfect for this. for shiner fishing in the canals, the MB's are waaay over powered. you'll be using no more than 1/8oz split shot for that type of fishing.
on a similar note, i ho

47. Swimbait rod
I've got a customer who wants a swimbait rod similar in action to the Dobyns 795ML. He'll be throwing Monster BullShads - not sure of the weight on those(4-5oz?). Here are the specs from the Dobyns site: 7’9? 1pc. 15-30lb, 1-5oz, Med/Hvy Fast Mike Long Signature Swimbait Rod. I know that there are lots of blanks to choose from that would be great for swimbaits but I've never handled that partic

i suggest the Pflueger President. cant get any better than that for the price point.
if money wasn't an option and you wanted the lightest possible, the Pflueger Patriarch is the reel to get.

i was under the impression that the 2012 MN fishing regs would allow the use of A rigs(new reg states up to 3 hooks per line). I quick called the MN DNR and was told "nope. the only time that the rig would be legal is when there is only 1 hook on the rig" - which defeats the whole purpose. the only multi-hook rig that is legal in MN is one that is meant for only 1 fish - stinger type h

52. Re: Crappie rod
the XP840 has plenty of back bone to handle larger fish. landed a couple decent sized walleye and a nice 5lb largemouth before I put the boat away for the year.
on a similar note, last year I reeled a few 2-3lb smallies up a 15 foot wall on an IP840...dont hate...any one of you would stop the car and fish a smallie infested stream anytime it presented itself...just make sure to use the reel and

54. Re: worst yet!!
one of my first builds got stepped in by my bro. we were trout fishing and I just landed a beautiful brown and was getting ready to snap a pic when I heard a crack...I knew exactly what it was...I was able to quickly splice the rod together and land a couple more browns and a nice rainbow.
on another note, I know how it feels like to lose a ton of tackle. I lost over $700 worth of lures when my

I like the ips and vss seats in 17. I just started building with the aeros and I really like the feel of them. I should be able to take them out pretty soon and see how comfortable they are in an all day situation.
on another note, when I first started building, I built a rod for my wife with a size 16 skeleton. She's got small hands and that seat was really uncomfortable for her. even during 3h

I built a couple of rods for my premarriage counselor's grand daughters. both spin cast built from mudhole's crb line. one pink one purple. both with pink and purple tiger wraps and some silver checks with glitter in the epoxy. my neices loved them. almost wasn't able to give them away to my counselor. but I am in the process of building a rod or my wife. she likes the look of quantum's energy pt
