Let me clarify. The line was tight on the retieve, but at the moment of impact it was not. Therefore the slack right after the hit would disipate the vibration (ie a bass imediately spitting the worm without pulling against the line). Now on the other hand if you were to hold the worm and keep tension on the line while flicking the worm (ie a bass sipping a worm, and then mouthing it without let

Just a guess, but by not securing, or keeping tension on the the line while you bump or flick it, the slack after the hit allows any vibration to disapate. Like the the toy phone where a string is strung between two cans. Talk through a slack line and you'll hear nothing, but put tension on the string and it works like a charm. However, unlike cans, I believe when it comes to rod blanks the are b

I think its quite rediculous to think that a rod will pick up vibration from a slack line. It wont. A good test would be to take that same "pool" test, but rather than simply swatting at the worm, take the slack out of the line with one hand, and then with the other hand flick the worm. I think with a taught line there will be a big difference between the sensitivities of varius rods. B

Curious why you think this is true (custom more sensitive)? Despite what you think of "factory" rods, the industry is vi

Both bass and trout are capable of the same gentle "sip". In my years fishing for both and have experianced undetectable bites by both species. On top of that I generaly think that higher modulus blanks be it factory or custom seem to be more sensitive. I absolutely do NOT believe that a $30 blank can be built to be as sensitive as a higher end factory rod. Unless of coarse the factory

Lets not forget too, that capilary action WILL draw the epoxi up into the void on its own.

Ive fished tournaments for about 10 years with high mod graphite rods. Never once broke a rod....ever. I feel high modulus is am absolute must for feeling light takes.

I would think ceramics would just add to the swing weight of a fly rod that small. Why not wire if youre concerned with weight?

Pac Bay SIC inserts seem to have sort of a blue tint, on their website (this will not work). Are they really black/grey like all other SIC, or do they really have a blue tint.

Before I ever walk away from a fresh application I check to make sure everything is pretty much already leveled leveled off. My biggest begginer mistake was to think things would keep leveling.

Eugene,
Thanks for the insight. I'm gonna definately look into what you've suggested. As far as what I like to fish, I'm probably into alot of the same rods you are. For me the faster the better!! Not to say that I like rods that don't load in close though. I like soft tips, but I like to feel the reserve power building up long before the bend gets to the handle. I use fast action even on my ho

I never seem to get quick recovery and maderate action in the same rod. I tend to like light, fast rods overlined if I'm looking for quick recovery with a moderate feel. Did you ever try overlining your TXL?

Does anyone have the ccs for a sage 590-4 Z-axis? I got a buddy who might want a build but he wants to know how close it is to his XP.
Thanks

I agree to a point. I think though if we got 50 people from this forum to test several rods I'm sure there would be a consensus about wich we thaught the best one or two was. I am fully aware that this is purely subjective, but I would be willing to bet that many of us would end up with the same blanks as our favorites. I could be completely wrong but I think there are certain qualities in fly r

I wish it were that simple. What about weight? if its not straight? Bad finish? sub par materials? balance?
Just because you've matched the right application doesn't mean its a good blank.

Yes. I did so to say want to open pandoras box, but not in a bad way. I am very curious as to what others think, and to be honest, I'm suprised you are the first to answer. I'm simply trying to narrow down what people see as quality in any particular blank. You're answer was right in line with the type of information I'm looking for.

I've been on this forum for a while now, and it has come to my attention that everybody has their own opinion about what blanks are good as opossed to others. Forum discussion in general leaves the reader in the the "dark" for lack any better description. For example.. of all the builders blank recomendations to pretty much anyone who asks out there, I have literaly not heard one negat

The only reason I bring this up, is in his referral to the orvis "tip flex". This indicates (and i could be wrong) that it is either a fast taper or at the very least a progressive fast taper in wich case I assume it wouldn't test that low on the the ERN or the AA. On the other hand, we all know what happens when we assume....lol.

Lets not forget. It IS possible that he might be doing something wrong. Does anyone have an orvis of the same model which has been CCSed. Compare the two to see if they fall in range with what he got? Im not saying he did do anything wrong, but there is the possibility.

Yes. Looking to make decals of our personal logo. Unemplyement (ex custom home builder) has prompted me to step into the highly competitive market of OEM fly rods. At least I will be doing something I love. I was burnt out at being a general contractor anyway....lol. Thanks guys....and wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.
