Good question Bill, some have them, But most don't, On the other hand I don't use ether one. I have a nice wrapper with a thread carriage. But I use a large hand held fly tying bobbin with tread tension control. I just feel like I have more control with the bobbin?? I have 6 of them loaded with whatever colors I'm using for that build, When I used the thread carriage it seemed like I was fumblin

Lets make it 3 of us, PacBay Minima's 3 or 4. I like the 3's myself for the 2-tone look, Example, Black frame with Gold rings. It adds a little more pizzazz to the rod. Standard height for the shorter rod's, And Minima {Match 3 or 4 taller guides} for the longer UL rods 6'+ to keep the light test wet line from sticking or grabbing the rod blank. Size you stripper guides according to the reel sp

I would recommend you take a look at these. Their real light weight and a little taller to keep the light line off the blank, I do use a light weight ceramic tip top to combat wear on the tip. Just my choice. I built 3, 5 1/2 ft brook trout rods using these in this order #16, #10, #8 with #5 runners to the tip this is with a 1000 size reel. Tight Lines Jaa.

If you don't have a good lathe you can use a {full length graphite arbor} and wrap with the color of your guide wraps and finish with epoxy. Mudhole has the right size arbor and may also have the Fuji seats, just not listed on their site yet. Jaa

Phil, If not sticky, Put out in the sun on a 85 degree day if ya can, in a safe place. Just don't put one out their when sticky or you will have every bug in the world in-bedded, I made that dumb move years back when I just started building LOL. I also have had a coat that would not harden up. And would leave a finger print from not mixing enough or mix being off, So I re-coated with a second l

If your handy, You could always get a DC12v wallwart and run one of these off it, The speed control if you want it is below, You would have make a PVC chuck for it. Or find an old sewing machine at a resale or re-purpose store for the motor and foot pedal and build from that. Just a thought. Jaa

I also like the burl cork rings and look, I wonder if you were to use cork with pitts and fill them with Elmer's black walnut wood filler and sand if you would come close to the same look??? Or use some kind of colored inlay powder???

You need to answer that question your self, Everyone has a different opinion on were they want there rod to balance at. Hows it feel to you? tape a small sinker to the butt see how it feels. Not trying to be a smart **s But it is kind of a personal thing that's why I build instead of buying fast food rods. Jaa

Mike I can confirm that American-Tackle Titan, guides spark white. I had 1 extra from a build that I just hit on the grinder to confirm that. I unfortunately don't have a so called plated one, But I would say no, As the titanium coating would be measured in a millionth of an inch as far as coating thickness goes, They just don't give this stuff away, But a millionth of an inch would still provide

Well I'm a retired metal Finisher for the aerospace industries. It is very well known in my field that titanium has a very Bright {White} Spark. Not blue or yellow. You can goggle also if you would like. Hit the bottom of the guide foot on a hard grinding wheel and you will see. Jaa

Thanks Ross, I gave gray scotch-bright a try it's a little better left a nice satin finish overall, Their pretty good scratches about 3/32" by 1/2" long and a little flaky around the edge's, The blank is fine. It's just in the clear coat they used. These blanks must have been seconds both are scratched in the same spot with no holes in the plastic sleeves . Their for my son he wants to

Hello Gentleman, I have a few blanks the were purchased in a blow-out sale years back, They are american tackle blanks IM6 with the gold silkscreen labels. I assume they have a permagloss coating as they are high-gloss. What would be the best way to repair a few scratches that just went through the coating ? Strip them down by sanding? Lightly sand and feather the affected scratched area and re-c

Has anyone ever heard of a wrapping motor that is able to reverse direction? I'm not sure this can be accomplished using an ac powered motor. I asked this question of an "expert" at Mudhole, and his answer was, "wh

Marie, What size baits are you looking at throwing? Or will this be a trolling rod? Again what size baits with trolling weight size if one is used? A blank doesn't have to say muskie in the title to make a Great Muskie blank. Action, Line weight, Lure weight, Rod Length, Line them all up to your liking and you should have your perfect blank. Why buy what a manufacturer thinks is the perfec

If your handy it's not hard to make what your after. You can get gear motors here and @#$%&. And I used one of these for the chuck . I also picked-up a slow motor, 6 rpm one for an epoxy mixer, I used the same chuck just cut the hole a bit bigger for the epoxy cup to sit in, Mount it on a 45 degree angle, Drop in a ball bearing or hex nut in. And you have a nice mixer. If you look at photo's th
