Try this.....It's Tuesday. I only have 3 tuesday rods, and there are 4 tuesdays in the typical month.
If she golfs, it's like golf clubs. If someone understands why you need a whole bag full of them, they will understand why you need a whole bunch of fishing rods.

Hey Pete,
I picked one up at the Flambeau (sp) outlet in Weldon. They make the "Artbin" brand. Also a great place to pick up decoys, tackle boxes etc.

I think that you need some clarification on his question. It is true that most dentists are familiar with UV cure products. if, in fact, he was asking about UV - you have your answer. Your initial question was about IR not UV. Not the same thing. To most, a common IR source that a layman would think of is a heatlamp.

I remember seeing a photo of a "hoodless" aluminum reelseat on some standup rods. It had a flat flange with holes in it that appeared to allow the clamp screws on the reel to pass through/attach.
I've tried to find this photo, and the source of these seats.. I have a standup project and would like to try these, but I can't find the picture, and no one seems to know what I'm talking

The REC specials tubes are silkscreened with manufacture information, and some of the caps are engraved with rod specs.
I should have elaborated. The tubes that I got were labeled "Reddington" and some caps were for spey rods. This is not an issue if the tubes are for you, or, you can trim the label off if for someone else.
No question, they are great tubes, but they do cost some

I am lucky enough to have them made by someone in the family. For those of you that have them made, make sure you ask if the sewing machine used will do simple embroidery. All my rod socks are now embroidered with the person's name and rod specs. It never occured to me that a regular sewing machine could do this, but appearently, the higher end ones will. Talk about custom!

Mike,
Thanks. I wrap my surf tips in white NCP with the wrap color as an inlay. I was planning on coating that with the powder/epoxy and hope for the best. From what I understand, the hardest part is getting enough UV light exposure at night to make the powder glow brightly. There are several ways to accomplish that - I'm going to give it a try. The red eyes and small light sticks work grea

42. Re: Reel Seats
It's more than likely one of the Lakeland stamped brass seats. You could replace it with the same type, and it woulnt be too hard. Heat the seat with a torch and twist. The butt and blank should come off easily. I love the look of those old ash butts, but those old stamped seats always seem to crack at the hoods.

I noticed that there will be an exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls at Discovery Place in Charlotte starting Feb 17th. Kind of convienient if you are interested in that type of thing. I believe that Discovery Place is close to the convention center, and is one of 4 sites that will house this exhibit in the US.

OK I'll pile on since I'm 5'11" too. All of my spinning seats are 20. My suggestion would be to go to a big box sporting goods store and handle a bunch of rods with "Fuji DPS" on the reel seat. The size is stamped in the channel that guides the hood. It should say something like DPS18, which is the most common. You'll more than likely find a 16 seat on an ultralite. You can c

I have a set of 704's with Penn 535's on them. I would ask if he prefers star drags or lever drags for king fishing, and go from there.

I forgot to mention the anit-fatigue matting. If you are in a garage like me, or a basement with a concrete floor, it's a must.

Steve,
I have a very tall wrapping bench. It took some getting used to, but I am very comfortable standing and wrapping.
I asked this question before building my bench. Here is the thread

50. Re: tie-in loop
Tried the bead on braid and didn't like it. I could never get the length just right. I always seem to make the loop too long, and then when wrapping the bead would flop on/over/around/through the wrapping thread. Really frustrating when doing 1 turn inlays, and like I need 2 more hands anyway. I got in the habit of hanging it on the adjustment screw for the rod support on my lathe. I loose m

I am laying up handle assemblies on 4 50# stand up rods tonight. I do have FC arbors to fit the reel seats that I have. I have always used drywall tape/rod bond for the installation of the reelseats in this class. Does anyone have any experience in using the FC arbors for a 50# rod? I'm a little nervous about this one. I know that the arbors could take the shear, but I'm more concerned about

I wouln't bother with the inexpensive shop lights. They don't put out much light. I have 8' high output flourecent lights in my work area for general lighting. They are more than likely the same thing that Billy mentioned. Got them at HD or Lowes for $40 a piece. I did hang them on chains so that I could lower them to where I wanted them.
My other great find...since I work in my garage.

Lynn,
I have noticed this as well. I think that the t top rocket launchers do the most damage. The last set that I built, I put the sleeve over a turned down piece of full leangth EVA instead of tape bushings or arbors. My thought was that it would be much eaisier to cut off the nylon butt and scrape off the EVA and replace from the butt end than to deal with the removal of epoxy and drywall

I have also used the Forecast SWB70M spriral wrapped with good feedback. That one is all fiberglass and considerably cheaper than the seeker.

I have used the sulky red/black twist. It faded badly after a year. I did use 811 CP on the wraps.

You don't sneek anything in. You can't.
What you can tell her is that there is definetly a market for the products that you are making. Eventually, you get to the point that your neighbor, fishing buddies, family, etc. find out what your hobby is. Sell them custom rods! Don't be afraid to recoop your expenses, plus some. Then, buy your wife something with the money that your "hobby"
