Mudhole has an adjustable reel seat will tighten around the blank as well. You could use one of these if the od of your rod will work with one of the sizes that they offer. look on their site under reel seats....Mudhole.

Try custom Tackle. The last roll of tape that I got from Bob was higher in rubber than cork.

Jesse,
That is a great idea! I guess that if you put the gimbal on in such a way that the scrap blank couln't be shoved in far enough to split the rod blank. I would worry about that if it were some of the people that I fish with. Thanks for sharing it.

Ellis,
another way to cover pitted cork is with a rattan wrap. This turns really bad looking cork into a retro work of art, with very little work.

I'm looking for suggestions for a 6'6" or 7' blank with the lure weight sweetspot at 1.25 oz for false albacore.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you can benefit from an electronic version of the catalog in a PDF format, you can click on the Anglers Resource link to the left. It's listed there under one of the navigation tabs. They have really improved that site with alot of info.

Use a size 16 seat and a fighting butt built on a quick lock foregrip. This system is clean looking, out of the ordinary, and will fit into a standard tube for storage. I have started making all the 8,9,10 wt rods that I wrap for salt water this way, and everyone is very happy with the system.

I should also have noted to make sure that you do this over something soft like a towel so that the cap and collar don't get scratched from hitting the floor.

For REC tubes that need to be trimmed to length, I put a heavy bolt (3/4" x 8") that I had inside. Put the head of the bolt toward the cap. Put the cap on and turn the tube so that the cap faces the floor. Shake the tube in one quick motion perpendicular to the floor. The bolt will act as a driver and pop the cap off quicker than you can imagine. You can then trim the tube to length

I'm wrapping a 10wt for salt and want to use titanium guides. What is the difference between the TSG and TLSG guides?
I have used the alconites on most of the fly rods that I have built, so am very familiar with them. Are the TLSG guides the same frame style as the BLAG? Are the TSG frames just earlier versions? Is one better than the other?
