Thanks, I'm indoors and maintain 72 degrees in the room I do the finish. I store the finish in the same room. I ended up cutting it all off and re wrapping the butt wrap. I'll stay with it this time and baby the finish with the torch. I thought it could be the brand switch, it was suppose to be size A but looked a tad thicker than the gudebrod A.

Been building for just over 6 years now and have always used gudebrod threads. I used a different brand of thread for a rod a few days ago and I have bubbles all over the finish. I put finish on the same way I always have. Never had the bubble problem with the gudebrod. The only variable is the thread, all other techniques are the same. The rod looks so bad that I feel I got to cut it all of

I have the same problem. Bought the deluxe chuck at the expo two years ago. Was great for two months then started loosening and slipping. I tried various things. What has worked best is a combo of two things.
1 - I cut a piece of cork tape and taped the jaws of the chuck. So the cork tape touches the blank or butt cap/gimbal. This allows for compression.
2- I always wrap one or two

Yeah that's about what I figured. Should have bought sooner, but I had 7 spools and thought that would last a lot longer than it did. I was hoping to make those last til the expo. Figured I could make a decision on which to switch to there, since I could actually see and touch the different brands. I've used fish hawk before, but I was taught with Gudebrod and just kept going with what I was t

Anyone know of anybody that may have some spools of gudebrod size D black thread? I'm down to my last spool.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I need to play with spacing and drop out a few guides.
Mr. Stevens I have read most of the M and M threads, but it is always good to go back for a review. Thanks for the link.

I built a hand full of micro rods for me and friends and I love them for casting topwaters and jigs to drum and specks. I do have a question though. How many micros is too many? I was told recently by a very reputable builder that I didn't need to use as many as I was. That being said, what is the average number of micro for a rod? I know it will vary some, but lets say a 6'6" medium a

I think I saw on here awhile back a rod that had a bright chartreuse wrap on it. I want to say it almost fluorescent chartreuse if there is such a thing. I also think I remember the person saying they used maderia thread in the wrap. Can some one tell me the color number of that bright chartreuse thread from maderia, or am I completely off base? Thanks.

Doing my first micro spiral wrap rod and don't know where to start. If I was building them all on top, I would just go with threes all the way up. Can I do that with a spiral? What is the basic rule for spiraling micros. Looking at doing a simple spiral. 0, 90, 180, the micros to the tip.

Batson makes a few. Look at the SW 1207, SW 1208 and SW 1209. All are 10 feet one piece.

194. Re: Expo comments
Yeah man! I was wondering where the rod building symbol was on that one. Still it was very funny.

I have only made 4 rods like this. When I static tested I had line touching the rod. I kept adding guides until I no line on the blank. They are 4inches apart starting 26 inches from the middle of the reel seat and working toward the tip. It works out to 3 guides per foot over 4 feet of rod. I'll look at it again when I build the next one. How much distance is there between guides on your r

I use 12 size 3 micros plus the tip on a 6'6 baitcaster with the guides on top.

198. Re: Tax filing?
It would be income and FET. So I guess I need a 720 and a Schedule C. Thanks for the responses.

199. Tax filing?
I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for, maybe I didn't type the words right or something. When ya'll do your tax returns, what forms do you use?

Thanks for the replies. I have never used Cp on any rods I've made. I do have a 2oz bottle, but it has never been opened. I bought some fish hawk at last yeas expo and I liked it enough, I was taught using gudebrod and that is why I still use it as my "default thread". Just thought I would ask as it seems more and more folks are switching threads. I plan on doing some thread researc

201. maderia or gudebrod
I' ve used gudebrod almost exclusively over the years and like it, but I see where many builders are switching to maderia. What does maderia offer that gudebrod doesn't? For those of ya'll that switched what made ya'll switch? Is maderia that much better of a thread or is it just the new kid that everyone wants to try?

IF you are talking about Wayne Fowkes then no one else need show up. Heck I'd say you could win with 100lb mono on the reel if Wayne had anything to do with it!! Can't wait to see the set up at the expo.

Will have to try that. I have had major problems with my deluxe chuck and slipping. It only happens on "bigger' rods with the larger butt caps. I tried tape and it didn't work. Thanks for the rubber band tip. I will have to try that. Great info in your post, thanks for sharing.

I have used the testors paint and believe or not, white out to cover the rod before laying down an underwrap. I would advise against the white-out as it is think and pushes up through the threads sometimes. The testors paint is great though.

I am need of a spool of size A, Gudebrod NCP #330. Does any body have one they would be willing to sell? Even a half spool would suffice.
Thanks.

Does any body know if any of the thread manufacturers make a blue colored thread that matches the UNC baby blue. I have looked but have been unsuccessful in getting a match. Any help would be appreciated.
