Bingham has had the St. Croix Fushia colored blanks for about two months now. Beautiful color!

Very stylish and very well made. But not for use in cold weather. It will be very cold to the hand. Otherwise it is an exceptional piece of kit. Is certainly up to the task.

It was Barnum who said, "There is a sucker born every minute." It was Abe Lincoln who said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."

I think he's talking about the skins for making free form carbon handles rather than tubes for use as straight handles.

Webster's Definition of initially (adverb): at first; in the first place; at the beginning Indeed it is not hard to determine where a blank first flexes when load is applied to it. The term "initially" is not quantifiable by numbers, only by similar terms or definitions. It is as the definition above states --- the first place; at the beginning. It should not be hard to put a little

I remember hearing a duck decoy maker say something about how he managed to carve the fowl --- he just cut away everything that did not look like a duck! I would guess if you took a reel seat and cut off everything that is not really needed for mounting to the rod and for securing the reel, you would have a very minimalist seat.

Does this chart say why you would want a guide so close to the tip? I would think the idea would be to get the job done with the fewest number of guides possible. I see guides as a necessary evil. I wish I could completely do away with them! But this isn't possible so I try to use the very fewest I can. Enough to provide adequate stress distribution but not so many as to weigh the blank down and

I agree......you want to make sure that the reviews you get are actually from bona fide persons that have indeed purchased and built NFC blanks and not a competitor or other person who is trying to lead you astray. NOt saying anyone would do that, but you want to know that the person is being upfront. Sometimes a public review makes people a little more honest. Sometimes.

Was Joe also the fellow that had started the Rod Building International Group? Whatever happened there? Will he be dropping that as well?

By all means do a quick study of the NGC! I would recommend for 8lb line or under, high frame 20, 12 and then six low frame fly type 4's the rest of the way. For 10lb or 12lb line, I would recommend high frame 25, 16, 10 and then five low frame fly type 4's the rest of the way out.

If this one is anywhere near as good as the #1 CD, it will be a godsend for a lot of rod builders.

I am happy to see North Fork adding this sensible information to their product line. It can do nothing but help builders make better buying choices. Well done!

If the line revolves around the entire ring circumference on the retrieve, you aren't controlling the line. You may and likely will experience line slap against the rod on the retrieve.

Forgive my ignorance on this technique, but what happens to such a section of abalone when flexed along the length of the blank in the upper portions of the rod? Does this not crack or break the abalone? Does it retain its flexibility? Sounds very beautiful.

Define "good." A good machine lathe will run into the many thousands of dollars. But for most rod building work I would think you could get by with any of the oriental machines that sell for under a thousand dollars. My preference would be the Jet ten inch model. Build a stationairy tool rest for the post and you have the best of both worlds for machining parts and doing freehand wood

Be careful! A potentiometer can cause loss of torque at low speeds and can be hard on the motor. At least this is what an electrician friend told me.

I am very glad you posted this..... I had planned to build a set of rods for driving over and will now remove Seeker from the list of possible candidates! In all seriousness I think such advertisements are a bit off the shelf anyway. I am not sure what it is that they are supposed to convey. Is a blank that can withstand being driven over somehow a better fishing tool than one that fails under

82. For Tom
I would like to send a 5x7 SASE for the rod building symbol decals. I would like more than one but only know what the envelope weighs. Can you provide me the weight of a single decal so I will know how much postage to provide for maybe three? Thank you.

Great fun if kept in the proper atmosphere! My money will not be on the engineers or scientists that have argued their technical points with such great dexterity here on this forum. The man or woman who really knows the most about fishing rod building dynamics is apt to be a person you would never have thought of!

I would think that you would definitely want to upset the revolving coil of line. A revolving coil of line cannot possibly be very efficient. Everything else being at least equal, baitcasters and spincasters will both outcast spinning outfits due I presume, to the fact that they pay out line in direct form instead of in large wildly revolving coils. I would think that even if you could find a way

Restoring an older bamboo rod so I purchased a couple nickel silver ferrule sets from Anglers Roost. Beautiful. Marvelous. Perfect fit. No lapping or fitting required. I am very impressed. I know Johnnie doesn't have a website but he does have a store on @#$%& JKs Anglers Roost. Or call at 716-565-9838. Quality is very much alive in these ferrules. These are the best I have seen in forty years

Having the most talented rod builders in the world as writers doesn't hurt! Names like Jim Upton, Bernie Cohen, Rich Forhan, Mike Ballard, Joe Emig, Dr. William Hanneman, Gene Bullard, Ralph O'Quinn, Scott Throop, Bill Colby, Jason Brunner, Tom Kirkman, Andy Dear and so many others that I'm forgetting, means that you get information from people who truly know the craft front to back, inside and o

The bigger question might be- why? Do these guides need to be improved? Has it been decided that there is a problem with them? Where are all the reports of such problems? Surely a redesign is not in order because a half dozen people have reported something amiss, is it? What is the percentage failure rate- 1%? Less?

What say ye on the use of PB Minima guides and braided line? Are any results from hardcore use in at this time? Still too early to say?

My guess is that he is referring to the area on the blank that shows through the opening in the reel seat. When you scuff the area for better bonding you need to outline that area and make sure you do not scuff it or it will show once the seat is in place.
