Tom made a good point. If you want to only replace a rod or 2, you may want to buy the best rod you can afford off the rack. In our case, it was my wife, Chris, who wanted to start building rods. Some thing she thought she could do, and do well. She was right! Now we have about the next 5 builds sold already. It may be a addicting hobby, hope it is! Mike Barkley had a good point. I have about 4

First, I would read everything on this forum. There is a great amount if info found in the library. Go back and read past posts. They will tell you lots about the epoxys, threads, cp, and a lot of tips. Then look at the sponsors at the left. They are a great reference to the products you will need. We are somewhere between 15 and 20 rods now, with a lot more planned. Look at Mudhole. They are gre

Jeff, I have only been around a few months myself. These folks are great. Not only are they helpfull, and willing to share info, they try to share the correct ways to do stuff, not just @#$%& you. If you have a question, you can pm them for the answers also...great folks! The sponsors to the left are great sources for info. I have been on a lot of forums, finally decided this was the best one

I would look at Midwest Rod and Reel. There you will find some good prices on Rainshadow blanks. There will be one that works at a good price. Also Mudhole's blanks are a good price for starters. Look at some of their private label blanks. Some start at $12.00 or less. Good starter blanks. I just ordered a few. If the 6'9" isn't available, a person can shorten a 7" if the action is wha

We are pretty new at the rod building game. We have tried a few different things. The LS supreme Hi-Build is what we keep finding to work the best for us. It seems to do in 1 coat what the others do in 2. We tried a couple other brands, but the Hi Build seemed to work the best for our wrapper and aplication, Kyle Robinson

I had read a lot before building our first spiral. Then I set the guides so that the butt guide worked great with the reel, in this case a Stradic. I set it so that it was at a proper disatance so the line was spooling fine, and in a position so that the line was fed naturally to the bumper guide. Then down to the next guide. I did use a transition guide, one more than I would have needed actuall

Mark, we live in Cerad Rapids, IA. Met you last November here at the rod building guild.. I see a real increase in the presence St Croix has in this area. All the big stores are really pushing St. Croix a lot more. less Shimano presence, IMO. Kyle Robinson

Looks like a good line-up! I think there will be good things coming here. Nice catalog. I like the mix of bass rods. Looks like some good blanks. Can't wait to try to order some. Tom, thanks for helping ride herd on this issue for us. And to everyone else for pointing us in the right directions. Very easy to notice a lack of Gary's last name in the catalog!! Any dealers who will be carrying

Les, you are right on! We just has a customer break a G. Loomis C723-GL3 Med Hvy Fast, by lifting a 6 lber over the side of the boat. The fish was flopping while the rod was being bent into a horseshoe at neck level of the angler! Some people don't deserve to get a great rod into their hands. I agree, hish-sticking a rod at the speed of sound will bust them right and left!! All I fish with for s

A similar way to look at things is this, which is very similar to what others are saying. Take costsof materials x2 (except the blanks) Lower end blanks x3 is ok, but on the high end ones, x2 may be a bit high, but this is up to you. Remember that the x3 may actually gain you a bit more than x2 after your shipping is taken into consideration. You pay shipping twice. Once on the materials and sup

We have used about a dozen of them. They are excellent, both the casting and the spinning. Also a good selection for whatever you are building.

Thanks Tom. We appreciate the great service your company provides. We have ordered several times this last year, and were impressed with everything. Selection, price, service, as well as the great specials you feature. My wife is actually the rod builder. On June 5th, she called your company with a question, and your staff was very helpful, and you could tell that they enjoyed helping a customer,

We (wife and I) fish a lot. We fish spinning most of the time, but I do fish with casting some. We also build rods. We build rods that we have speced for our stradics. We love the Shimano Stradic. We use it with braid up to 25 lbs. I fish a lot of heavy flooded timber, rough stuff, using braid and mono both. These reels are great for both. We use the 2500 mostly, but have a couple 1500 also for l

As it sets, the rod butt is probably on the left, turning away from you... If you switch the set up from end to end, with the rod butt to the right, the rod should now turn toward you and down. The butt is just on the right, tip on left. Is this a possibility? I know it would work an a lot of wrappers. Kyle Robinson
