I like them. Most people seem to want them. I hate to use the guides.

I have a RodSmith Quad. It is on PacBay's site. I like it. Does 4 at a time. A couple notes:
I clamp it to a table top. I like to put a small piece of saran wrap on the butt, then tighten the grip. You also need to use rubber bands to wrap and grip. It really works great. I also like to use it for applying the epoxy. Put 4 rods in, mix up the epoxy, do 4 at once. Depends on how much there is to

As Lou said, I also use them for repairing busted rods. They make good sleeves for this. Also they will very, depending on what you get. Be open minded, experiment.
Mike, how did you sand yours? I hit mine lightly, gave a coat of epoxy. But I would like to sand, and maybe paint. I have used 1200, then 2000 wet sand.
Maybe we should put some grape juice in the paint. Start a new fad!

66. finish on cork
An old builder friend of mine from years ago, always put a finish of permagloss on his cork handles to seal the cork. I use the cork sealant, but does anyone put another sealant over the cork. I think my rods need more protection on the cork. The cork gets too dirty, it seems to me. I tried to look in the search, but could not find anything.
Any suggestions?

I have built on both. For a beginning build or for an inexpensive setup. They are ok. They seem to me to bave some blemishes, slight flaws, bad tips or butts. I have had trim the tip and butt on a couple. For the money, you get a good value.

Silvia,
I just recieved a samplepack of Diamond II from the boys at Swampland, courtesy of them and you. I want to thank you, as well as Lance and Bill.
I have a couple small businesses. An art gallery/custom frame shop, a small soy candle company, (my wife is the main person here), as well as a small lure company. I sell my own product, as well as rep for, and distribute product for some m

Hi folks, I am trying to find out if there is interest in anyone from around the eastern Iowa area that may want to go to the rod expo. I live in the Cedar Rapids area. 100 miles from the quad cities, 140 from DesMoines. I could drive my vehicle.
Any interest, please let me know!

Some days you guys are just good cheap entertainment! I thought Skeet used one of those 'nanner rods to match his 'nanner boat! I was just looking for a gold metalflake paint for the rod to match the old Charger!
Mike, some days, this is just how a good thread ends up! But, some days, it is always good for a laugh or 2 also!
John, try a green rod with brown spots when you flip a frog to th

Above is a link to St Croix. I just picked one of their pages. There are a lot of sponsors, and suppliers to the left on this forum that will break down their products, or blanks depending on the presentations, and type of fishing that a person does. They may have a blank that can be used for an assortment of rod builds. Their catagories really help a person to get an idea on what to build. T

Green, with gold trim bands are one of our favorites. Black, and gold, black and red, and I also like to use Silver, or dark grey with red trim. Looks great.

We have one also. On smaller blanks, wrap clear thread over the label, then cover with epoxy. The edges will lift on smaller rod blanks, as Marc said.
The water slides work better.

As Gary said, "this is an interesting Thread". I fish a lot for crappie and bass. Crappie, usually use a bobber, mono, no big deal for the senisitivity issue, unkess i am using a little jig around cover, of course, then there is.
Now as for the bass fishing, completely different situation. Like a lot, I throw cranks and spinnerbaits with the rods I build for that purpose. Feeling a str

Your feather looks fine. Mine is done the same way. I have seen some of the other guys do some really neat stuff here. Maybe they will show something again.
Mike, look at the photo section, under feather inlays. There are tons of great pics by some real tallented guys!

77. Re: Tax filing?
If a person is serious, there are a lot of catagories for expenses. Depreciations of assets is another. Supplies, advertising, a computer for information and web access, nad also for website design. I have had a couple businesses for about 12 yrs. We buy a new computer every 2 or 3 years. We have about a dozen catagories we track costs on. We also report all sales.
A business has to be legitima

I do not have a picture, but we have used turkey, or pheasant feathers. Sometimes with a black or matte colored dark grey blank, the feathers do not show real well. it helps sometimes to do a underwrap, then epoxy, then add the feather. If you add a couple coats of epoxy, there is a little lift action under the feather. I am going to do another one, maybe i can take a pic.

I do a lot of bass fishing. As well as crappie and panfish. I like to put the reel on the rod, the balance point is where I hold the rod with the reel on it. On the baitcasters, it is where I "palm" the reel. On a spinning reel, I use a split grip, with the reel foot brace support between 2 fingers. For almost all my fishing, For some applications, I like to balance horizontally. Crankb

80. Re: Tax filing?
Here is a copy of the FET form 720.
. Tom also has one on record in the Library.
The schedule c is also available on the internet, as other tax forms.
FET is due quarterly, so is due the end of the following month after qtr end.
I have a business, so handle it like other quarterly items. If you do it as a home business, check with your tax preparer.
A lot of us do this. We may do it as a pt

Excellent feedback. This is exactly where I wanted this thread to go. To get other ideas, other than: "We guarentee our rods like Simano." We are not Shimano, nor should we be try to be.( I use the Shimano name as an example. Their warrenties are excellent, and they make a good product. It is out of respect, not disdain that I use them as an example.)
I like what said, as well as the o

Good point Dan. Also when the tips are pointing backward, less chance for you to step on the tips on the front deck.

Good idea Chuck. Nothing wrong with telling them that. All retail stores pass this tax on, added to retail. customer does pay the sales tax on top of the excise tax.

Alex D. brought a good point into a thread below. With some of the "new", or maybe overpriced rods that are now on the market. Warrenties are a huge factor in the customer buying good quality custom rods. A lot has been written here about that, but I had a couple thoughts to share...
A lot of threads on here and other places seem to deal with the fact that prices go up, margins get s

Tom, you are correct. with the retail on some of these commercially produced rods hitting the $400 range, plus, it really opens the door for custom builders to market their rods. It is a lot easier to compete with a $400 rod than to try to compete with a $125.00 rod.
However, we do still have to produce an excellent product, to show our customers that we have a better product. With that in mind,

I ordered a MHX kit, looks great. Ordered another, plus a blank to build on. Like the registration/warrenty program. Very simple program. Customers will like this also. Nice quality fair priced kit package. Cant wait to build the rods. We plan to sell a couple. i think they will be well recieved.
