Works fine for me now. Looks good. Now, the way around not shaping on your wrapping lathe would be to buy the tool rest, tail stock, a chuck/motor, and an extension bed piece. Admittedly this is a pricey option, compared to a mini wood lathe.

124. Re: M&Ms help me out
Logic tells me those 2 guides are too far apart. 6 inches is quite a bit of distance. Try respacing and adding another BLAG4.

Out of the Batson stable Karry and Ken have listed most of the bream suitable models. Narrowing it down to 1 piece rods, we have:
RX7
IS600, IS 660, IS720 : These are shorter 1 piece UL spin models that make good short range flickers. Extended, they also do very good at general light lure work, handling both light plastics/jigheads and hardbodies well. The 720 extended by a foot would probabl

That availability has changed drastically Ken. As far as I'm aware there is no active Batson distributor here in Oz anymore. A pity 'cos I really like the Batsons, and would definitely build more of them.
Stu, there are quite a few manufacturers that offer blanks suitable for bream fishing. To list all the series and models would take pages and pages. Best bet is to flip through the online cat

The arbors are generally full length, so completely fill the reel seat tube. Once it is glued in the seat, you ream to the same tightness of fit as a cork grip piece, and glue in place.

Use Mike's method to check where the ferrule is seating prematurely. The china pencil works well. A little trimming from either the male end or the female end will help get a better fit. After getting the mating sections back "in sync" so to speak, apply a coat of U40 Ferrule Lube. As Tom mentioned,w ax is a decent temporary fix, but attracts and holds dirt that wears the ferrule even

Those would be the pre-finished tiles Tom. You can buy them raw, raw primed with adhesive, finished one side/raw one side, finished and primed with adhesive. Raw suits rodbuilding best. I use the bulletin board cork because it is most commonly used raw. It is only lightly glued to the boards to make it easier to replace when worn.

They work very well, giving a slightly heavier, but very durable handle. With a couple coats of Tru-Oil, they look awesome too. I cut mine with a hole saw, from 4mm bulletin board cork. If using floor tiling, be sure to get the untreated tiles (no adhesive). Cork gasket, which is rubberized cork, makes beautiful dark accent rings. Combinations of all the above with either burl or regular cork can

Translation - They use both foreign and US made blanks.

With the line you are using, "hooksetting power" are usually words that don't get a mention. 4 and 6 lb is not the domain of heavy wire hooks and jaw drilling hooksets. Try finer wire hooks: they take less effort to get the point in, and sustained pressure early is more than enough to sink the barb. Bass mouths aren't THAT tough.
Cushioning the line is important in the fight, but als

I second the IP841. Trim it from the butt. I have one built up for similar purposes, and it's very nice. I do, however, use braided line and fluoro leaders.

The curved legs on the single foot guides look like oversized "bridge" guides... Different, interesting.

The KDPS nut is the closest thing there. The hoods are, with a little bit of care, interchangeable, so if you cannot get the KDPS in gold, then you can swap with a similar size reel seat. Failing that, the KDPS in 16,17,18, and 20 can be obtained from Japan.

138. Re: Rod Repair Story
Slight communication breakdown??? Always good to have a happy customer in the end, and the gentle ribbing can be handled, but....... more than the work originally agreed on was done. Maybe should have let him know that a bit of extra restoration would do the rod some good, advise him of what's happening and what to expect.

Just from the ratings I would think it was suited for heavier stuff. The "sweet spot" will be closer to 3/4 oz, in the middle. I don't think ther specifically is a need to rebuild it, just use it for another application, like jigs, or heavier lures. For the smaller spinnerbaits, you'll probably need a lighter powered blank.

Adam, Eric designed these blanks and as you mentioned, CTS makes them exclusively for him. I have to say though, that Charles is pretty close with the call on a HotShot blank. However, the lure weight rating is based on what Eric was throwing when testing the models out. The S10 has garnered pretty high class status in your part of Oz, and wider.
CCS would be able to paint a better picture.

141. Re: Which is better?
Alconites are lighter and look better than Hardloy. Pretty sure the frame material is the same, weight is also dependent on the guide style. Both ceramics will work very well in saltwater, Hardloys are cheaper, but Alconites are not that expensive anyway.
12 lb mono will have no issues going through a #6 guide at all, unless you are running ridiculously heavy leaders (like over 60 lb) and pass

I guess the Saragosa has a few bugs, considering it's supposed to be the upgraded version of the Spheros. The Spheros FB is certainly capable, but the Cabos and Bocas have also been pulling heavy duty all over since they were introduced. I think Mike Pedersen (Riley Rods) has some good feedback on the Quantums.

I don't think the TFO's have spigots. The grey/blue transition on the TiCrX fly rods is just paint. The ferrules are tip over butt.

What pound braided line will you be using, and will you be running a topshot or leader?
Forum: rodboard 14 years ago
Ted Morgan
Of course you can Chris. In fact, the DPSD seat will probably hold the reel the most securely, and the guides you suggest amount to a full ceramic setup that may weigh a bit more, but still perform very well, depending on what weight fly rod you want to build.
I have to say though, that with a 6ft fly blank, you are probably looking to build a short, small stream fly rod. Definitely one of the

The break is above the handle, and I suspect he would like to repair it and keep the handle setup.
Inner sleeve/spigot (graphite) and glass outer sleeve will give you the strongest repair. Being right above the handle, you can dress up the break with a simple butt wrap.

In the St. Croix lineup, there is only the SCII 2S60LF4 as a 4 piece spinning blank. I mentioned before that a 7' 3 piece spinning rod will match a 9' 4 pce fly rod for section length, so they will fit inside the same case. You will have to look at 3 pce, either 6'6" or 7'.
Batson also make a few travel models, as do American Tackle.
