Use a size 17 or 18 SKELETON seat. On top of being able to trim the threaded barrel to suit the customer, you can also shorten the length of the insert barrel.
I have the same problem, except that with an "ergo" insert I can now grip a size 16 without too much cramping. With a size 17 skeleton it would be perfect.

1082. Re: Split grips
That's the first thing you have to get right. Take a measure and see how much you need behind the seat when you hold the rod as if you were fishing. I doubt you'd need more than 2 inches, unless you have real hams.
Have had to make some adjustments to my dimensions in order to balance the rod. It's tip heavy right now. Making up some stainless steel discs to fit the buttcap.

Noticed that. That's fine if you want to go back to the main list, but I'm thinking of going to the next thread without scrolling up and down.

That's a compromise I'd more than be willing to make. I fish hard and am tough on my gear. Durable blanks get my vote, even if they are a few grams heavier.

1085. Split grips
I've just completed the handle on the 3 piece "Sneaky Pete". Blue dyed local hardwood. Split reargrip, no foregrip, downlocking size 16 Fuji "skeleton" seat (cut down DPSM 16). Black dyed 3/4" turned hardwood buttcap with thin aluminium trim ring. Hope to get a picture up soon, as soon as I finish it up. I'm gonna do a tinted epoxy "bump" transition from blank t

Yeah, me too. After initially acquaintting myself with the features (including the registration, which took a few attempts. I didn't check my e-mail), I like it. Keep the registration part. You can exit without logging off, and the cookies keep your status when you return.
However, I have one problem. The navigation b/w previous and next posts also needs to be on the bottom, so that after read

The quiklock screws onto any of the same size Fuji seats, whether it be the full seat or the skeletons. If you are talking about the skeletons, any insert allowing you to tighten the seat on the reel foot will work.
The Quiklock also does screw right off if you want to remove it. The fighting butt uses the "KN" quiklock (with a seat hood).

Thanks for that info. Need the backbone for both surf and cats. If it's too soft then it probably won't cast as well as the 2 pce models either.
Ideally, I'm looking for a 3pce, 8 1/2 ft to throw up to 3 oz. Fast action.
