I have the Pac Bay XL with the tubes and I like it very much and it's very portable(breaks down easy and it's lite weight) if you have to move it at all.

Cool, I really like the way this has progressed and how it is being refined. I haven't had alot of luck getting the weave straight on either the blank directly or on the foam grips. My finish on them isn't to bad but once in awhile I'm getting trapped bubbles! I can't wait to see what you have Tom.

I have done a search on here several times and read alot about spirals but the O'Quinn method sounds like it makes alot of sence to me! I'll get the Vol.6 #5 issue sounds like that will help. I'm guessing that the static test will have to be done after ALL the guides are in place even the transition guides. Then adjust from there working back to the spiraling transition to set the angles up!

I'm doing a "open wrap" or a diamond wrap with the blank exposed between! How should I finish it? Epoxy the whole area or just the wrap or threads? I'm guessing the whole wrap blank and all!

I'm building a bait rod using the O'quinn type of set up. Where do you start with the guides? I have the tip set 180 from the reel seat and I'm just trying to figure out the sequence. Should I tape on guides starting at the tip and work towards the butt? Where do I start to wrap around? I guess is my question.

As Steve said the carbon or fiberglass sleeves used for handles might work. I have used this on a cracked ferrule on a 11'6"glass surf rod ( it's a one piece now) and it has held very well and I can't say if it would change the feel or power of the rod since I couldn't fish it to start with.

I can suggest either a Seeker blank # SS-CJBF70H rated at 40 to 60 line or SS-CJBF65XH rated at 30 to 80. I have only ever used these as factory built so that's all I can suggest! Very strong rods! They have thick butt ends(not great if you like EVA or hypalon and a real nice taper. Not real expensive as a blank. I'm sure others will have more suggestions.

209 Goldenrod is closer to Cat yellow then the lemon, I really only have used Guberod mostly so I don't know about Medeira's yellows.

This might be a dumb question! Do most of you guys just build a few styles of rod ie: surf, boat etc... or do you build all types fresh and salt? And if you do build alot of different styles how did you learn them. I have two Super Seeker live bait blanks and I want to build one for my Bro-in -law but I have no idea as to what one really is set up like. Things like grip length and where to m

I don't know much or hear much about ATC blanks, I know it was Shikari Rods but being pretty new at this I really don't know much about Shikari either. I have a ATC blank on order an ATCII blank # SW1008 and I'm sure their quality is good! Just wondering why I don't hear much about them?

I just tried it again!! It slips when I'm getting it started all the time not just on a guide! I have tried about five turns over the tag and it stays, then as I start to continue the wrap the tag starts to slip through. I have ajusted the tension up and down. To little and it seems to unwind a bit ,to much and it pulls right out. I'm thinking of surface breaking the finish just under the wrap wh

Yes! You move the belt from one motor to another. The belt you have sounds wrong like stated above. I'm just getting used to my XL model, so far it seems pretty good and will get the job done.

I'm using this thread for trim but my problem is that I keep getting slippage with it on the blank. I just set up my power wrapper and haven't ever used this thread so I'm not sure what the deal is. I have tried loose and tight same thing, slip! Is this a common problem with this metal thread? Would it be easier to hand wrap this thread?

The lighter PVC would be Sch-21 or 26 which can be hard to find in some places. The box stores might have at least up to 11/4 size and that tractor store I have seen up to 2" all of which are 10' length. The plastic downspout sections are great for surf or boat rods with large or roller guides.

Being pretty new to this, I'd say thread that isn't twisted on the spool and vibrant colors. I have some metalics but haven't used them and so far all I have tried is Guberod and Sulky. Both seem to be real good!

There is a charm about varnish finish though, I just recieved from my father his old Harnell fiberglass and it has a varnish finish (on the wraps and cork) and it just has a look to it. Maybe it's just that "not as pimped look" older rods have!

You might want to try Max Seal which has been discussed here before. It's a water based single part poly that can be thinned with water (distilled would be best) and applied as a rod finish, and thinned and used as a thread sealant. It's very flexiable and It has alot of uses I'm finding (other then just for rods). My only peve about it is after 5 or more coats on something it can get slightly cl

Thanks Chuck, Versitex is who I bought them from the Coastbuster has a listing decal the others were marked as I listed and the no # one was in the ?? mark bin.I'm thinking the numbers are Versitex's inventory #. They are all in dusty original Sabre protection wrapping! As I said I guess it doesn't matter, I was hoping to get the line and lure rate. Sabre rods don't seem to be very documented. Ho

I bought a bunch of old Sabre blanks and can't find or figure out exactly what they are and may never know but I figured I'd ask. The first one is a BRQ 1050-4 and second one is BRQ-50226 the last has no # . I'm thinking these are surf blanks but was wondering what their ID is. I can't find any listing of a BRQ series so this model # might not be good, I only can find IGS and E-glassCoastbuster S
