Seeker has some freshwater 2 pc 7'6" fibreglass models that come in black. MS75, SP753, SP754,BF758,BF758X . I haven't used any of these blanks other then the surf series and I like the strength and light weight of these fiberglass rods. I also don't know what lure weight your looking for. Great Lake walleye get pretty big but my local ones in PA. aren't very overwelming in size.

Tom have you ever thought about a section or articles about rod/blank builders of the past? History pieces ie: Shakesphere, Fenwick, Sabre and even some of the more recent builders like Loomis and ATC! It's always hard to get info on what happened and the history on these companys! I know the magazine is builder based and space is limited but even a website article series would be cool.

I'm building a CSU 115 Brit Surf rod with a top over butt ferrule and a O'Quinn spiral. I'm sure that it's ok to place the first guide on the ferrule but can I use the guide wrap as the ferrule wrap as well or should I still put a ferrule wrap even if the guide sits on it?

That's a great idea Tom ,I'll have to remember that come show time. Jim I understand why, it's just frustrating not being able to get what you want when you want to get it. I have bought more two piece rods lately and their fine but many I would like are 1 peice. One other thing to think about is, Is this hurting the blank manufacters?

I'm saying it as a builder buying from a supplier. I have a supplier near me but I'm at their mercy and what they have in stock. I'm not a pro builder and I'm not going to buy 6 blanks at a time because it has to be ordered from the maker or wait months until the supplier puts in an order and piggyback my order with theirs. It's just someting that I've started noticing since some of the blanks I

I know shipping costs keep going up but for the builders who do surf rods 9'and above it seems that it's getting harder to buy them. I keep getting "it cost to much to order that blank but I have one of these" Well if I wanted one of those I would have asked for it! It seems it's more effective to order mutiple blanks but that is alot of $$ to put out all at once. I'm sure the pro-build

Yes! They do but you could paint them with a transparent paint after wetting out. I don't like these or the colored glass/carbon as much as the all carbon sleeves. I had a funny reaction with colored glass ones, The colored glass threads were sticky for days and the black carbon wasn't. It did finally dry but it freaked me out.

Testors airbrush thinner! They make it and it should be on the display rack at and hobby shop. It works better then regular paint thinner. Testors is a regular oil based enamel. I don't like water based type of paint they shoot kind of funny IMO. Also I only thin Testors about 20% or just till it runs thin on a mixing stick. Spray many thin coats and keep it moving you will get good coverage and

The grey Scotchbrites I use seems to polish the surface a little to much so the Old Dutch might get a try. Water-break surface is basicly taking the shine off a surface and creating small fine scratches so that glue/adhesives or paint etc.... will stick. It's called waterbreak because when water is appied it spreads or doesn't bead up. I think I have that right!!

I have an old copper fly rod that I can't ID and it weighs a ton. I beleive it was made from old aircraft antenna ater the war. Yours might be the same only steel.

Considerations how? i just can't see where there would be a problem. I use a conventional mostly for dead sticking bait (the boring type of fishing LOL) and can see up to 6 oz. no problem and use mostly 30# braid on con. reels. After building that live bait and testing it I love the way a spiral reacts.

I just finished an 8' sprail live bait rod and am very happy with it. While I was going to use the O'Quinn method I ended up using the Revolver system and it worked out great. Now as I fish the surf mostly and haven't read about or seen any spiral surf rods, is this method no very workable on long rods? Rods in the 10' to 11' range is what I mostly use.

You should read Rodmaker Vol.5 issue6 on stand up rods. I didn't know how much was involved getting it set up. It's more then just a standard, dealing with type of harness etc..... Very good article!

I think that might be what it is! I'm thinking the epoxy just magnified it and I'm noticing it now. All in all the rod turned out great and I'm sure the next will be even better.

I'm on my third ever built rod, a spiral wrap. I finished the set up and packed and didn't wrap to tight or loose and on all the threads I used CP. I did this two nights ago and yesterday put my finish on (Flex Coat high build) It came out great and smooth and had no problems with bubbles for the most part. I looked at it last night about 6 hours after application and my threads have seemed to ga

Alex,I have seen people tape them on so I would say using thread would be ok, just a little more permenant then tape.Reel maintnence might be the only problem.

I also think a split grip looks better!I have to agree with you Capt. Neil, I like to look or think outside the box but keeping it simple and build what you like. Of course I build mostly for myself so I don't have anyone to please but myself. I also like the feel of the blank and instead of EVA or cork I have been carbon sleeving directly to the blank (mostly for looks as some blanks are unfini

Some were molded rubber on the Harnells. Harnell has just been bought out and speaking with the new owner none of the origanal handle molds exist anymore. He is looking to maybe reproduce them if they aren't cost prohibitive. Harnell should be making blanks in about a year again, once the new shop is set up in Oregon. Still American made!

The tips of these blanks are fiberglass as Tom said and have that "fiberglass flex" to them. Fast or med fast but kind of soft if that makes any sense!

I happen to have a bunch of these blanks in 8' . The SS-CJBF-80 is med/fast compared to the same in the composite model (non-SS) and takes a #28 seat as the butt end is about 1 1/6 . CLB-806 and SS CLB804 are what appears to be the same blank other then the material. The SS models are faster then the standard composite one . These blanks have a thin butt section, I like the power of the SS models

Being a surf caster I never was a fan of heavers made of graphite. That being said I haven't seen one break like that.
