Tom, I heard on the news that both Carolina's were being hit by snow, sleet, ice storms and a deep freeze. I got the impression this was unusual and it was causing problems, especially with transporation. Hopefully all of this will have settled down by the time the show starts, but I was wondering if you could provide us some idea what we might expect weather wise in HP in 2 weeks.

They are pretty easy to find, at least in Northern California. I've seen them at WalMart, Sports Authority, Big5, and at all the hunting/ fishing shops. I've used them for years on a number of things and they do work great like Jesse said.

Hey Mike, Any chance of sending me a copy of your trim wrap turorial please? I'm retired too and have the time to learn new things. I'd like to compare how you wrap them to the way I wrap them because your way just might be better then my way. Thanks!

I recently built a rod for my 4 yr old grandson. I used one of my smallest single foot spinning rod guide as the hook keeper. I figured for a 4 yr old it just would easier for him to get the hook through guide then a small loop of wire. Once done, it really worked out nice and I think it kinda neat looking. I'll try and post some photos of it to show what I'm talking about.

Billy, You are a good sport! I just thought the Visualwrap would make a better first prize since I think I have invested more money in my name tag, then the book actually costs. Its at the jewelers now getting the stones set. PS: I hope you bring other copies of your book to sale, because I promised Raymond Adams I'd bring him back one............. signed by you. I know I'm going t

And its these type of people who catch and land state record fish! Or they do it with a $15 Wallyworld rod and reel. Just be glad you are not a gun builder!

For what its worth, I find that Micro Sol and Set really makes it easy to apply decals and the decals always look perfect when I use it.

Anthony, What exactly is a "lift of tape" ? I always have problems with Loomis decals. I ruin a number of them and I always have problems with finger prints. Thanks!

I think you may just have the BEST home rod building shop in the USA! We could have a contest to see who has the best shop, but I think Billy would want to enter it and be the judge too (LOL)! PS; When I went to bed tonight, I thought I had a pretty cool rod building room, but after seeing yours, now I'm depresed. Nice going Lynn!! Back to therapy...............(LOL).

I've been building rods going on two years now. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to learn on my own from all the books and videos I had purchased. I also began reading RBO everyday as another tool to learn by. But being more of a visual person, I just could not grasp the concept of rod building on my own. Finally one day I got up the nerve up to contact Raymond Adams, who I on

Billy V. has challenged me and I think all other attendees at the2007 Rod Show to a contest of who will be wearing the best and most interesting name tag. Billy has also been kind enough to put up a copy of his own book and one slightly used red devil costume as the grand prize. Okay, I'm just kiddin about the costume, he needs that for work. Maybe Billy can provide a little more info on

Ok Billy you are on. I'd love to get a copy of your book, but you'll have to sign it for me. Any rules or does anything go? My only request is you can not use thread or (EVA) foam on your tag ( LOL!). Sounds like fun!! (how did I know you would run with my suggestion and put your book up as the prize?). Lastly, I'll buy you a beer if you wear your devil costume one day during the show.

You are very lucky being that close to the show. People will be traveling across the US and others will be coming from as far away as Europe. You got it made being so close. Plus the money you will save buying your stuff at the show will more then pay for the gas you use. Its the Disneyland of rod building!!!!

I am really looking forward to seeing and handling the CTS blanks at the show. After you told me all about them last year, I was sold. I look forward to meeting you and buying a lot of blanks!

I have been planning to do some airbrush art on my rods for a long time. I have a number of ideas that I plan to use. I bought all my equipment (airbrush , compressor, air eraser ect) from Dixie Art and I bought my paints from Waco Taxidermist Supplies. They have the biggest supply of airbrush paint that I have ever seen. Plus you can pick out all the beautiful vivid colors of fresh and salt

Hi Chris, I went through the same thing after promising my wife a pink rod for light bass and trout. I bought the pink rod you mentioned from Mudhole and believe me, it will not work! Its a very heavy duty rod and no way would work for a 4 year old or for bass or trout. However, it will make a great saltwater rod. I thought about painting a light action blank pink, but I decided it was too

I'll be there and already made my name tag. I wired it with little LED lights. Booked the flights and made hotels reservations many, many months ago. I m bringing the little woman and all I had to do was promise her a cruise down to Aruba the day after the show. I can't wait to try some of the rods I plan on buying off the back of the cruise ship or at least in the swimming pools. Mayb

I posted a similar request regarding name tags a month or two ago. I think it would be very helpful for us to help identifying each other, especially those of us who interact on RBO daily. Right now I would not know Tom if he was standing in front of me. The only person I might reconize is Billy V. and that is only if he is painted red and wearing his a devil suit. But seriously, I have

I put some Brother's labels on a number of rods well over 10 years ago. They are black over clear and gold over black and there is no sign of any fading. I also covered some of the labels with Flex Coat and I have had no sign of yellowing after 10-15 years. Still clear as Gin.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the help and information. The fine people on RBO have come through again. Raymond, thanks for the info on I.W.E. I never heard of them, but I'll check them out next time I'm out that way. Stan, thanks for your input on what you built and used when you fished Sitka. Spencer, thanks for the info on traveling with rods. I'll have to check w/Alaska AL as

I have a very close buddy who is currently serving his third tour of duty and I want to surprise him with a couple custom rods for fishing halibut and salmon in Sitka, Alaska. My question is if any of the readers on RBO have ever built rods for fishing Sitka (or personally fished Sitka) and can recommend the best performing blanks and equipment, from roller guides, grips, reel seats to reels

I'm building 2 rods for my grandsons ages 4 to 6. I am using some very nice and very reasonably priced glass rods I bought from Robert at fishsticks4u. I bought SPG722 (the SPG723 would be a good choice too) and cut them down to 5Ft. I am putting colored EVA camo grips on them, pirate and shark decals and a nice colored butt wraps to match the colors on the rods. There is nothing more

I agree with Charles. I tried a number of different ways and found acrylic ink with a thin metal quill pen to be the best...............................for me. Everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for another. Try different methods on an old blank and find out which one works best for you. If none work for you, call the Deal Connection. They are very nice peop

Ray, I could not have said it better myself. I have placed numerous orders through Robert at fishsticks4u and never once had a bad experience. Maybe we see eye to eye on fishsticks4u because I have worked with the US Marshal on and off for many years, however I had little contact w/ Air Marshals.
