211. Re: Titebond 3
Myles,
I too have been trying to find a source forTitebond III in Sacramento, California with no results. I currently use FC 2 part expoxy with no problems, but I still want to try Titebond III. I've read a lot of good things about it in this phorum. I found several websites that sell it and think I'm going to buy it on-line. You too might want to do the same, if the postage is not too ba

I just write on the blank with a pen and Indian ink that I bought at the Michael's Sore on E. Bidwell St. that's close to your house. If you are interested in learning to write on the blank or seeing what it looks like, shoot me an e-mail.

I have used fire opal glitter for many years. I first started using it on the finish of custom basswood lures I made and airbrushed. The glitter really gave the lures an extra sparkle in sunlight, like natural fish scales. The glitter I use, came from Flex Coat (I think), and is very fine. It really adds a very nice effect to certain wraps and expoxy finishes. I just applied a finish with

I have used Simply Green on EVA and cork with excellent results. Cleans them up and they look new again.

Hi Nicholas,
My name is Rich and I'd be happy to help you get started. I live very close to you and between Raymond and myself, you'll have no problem building your first rod. Raymond taught me a lot and he is very good, not only as a rod builder but as an instructor. Send me an e-mail at richbet98@sbcgloba

I normally wait overnight but recently I was in a hurry. I applied Flex Coat over CP after only several hours. I ended up with tiny bubbles leaking out of the thread. I could actually see the bubbles forming (with cheater glasses) as they tried to escape the thick FC. I think this was because even though the CP seemed dry, it was not and the thread was not sealed resulting in trapped air to l

I have tried many fillers and like Andy Dear stated, the Elmer's Wood Filler in "Golden Oak" matches perfect. It blends in so well you can barely tell you have used a filler. Great stuff for natural cork!

I retired after 30 plus years of law enforcement this spring and decided it was time to relax and fulfill my dream of build custom rods. It was at this time I found this website which just blew me away. I thought L.E. was a close tight knit group of people but the people on this site as well as rod builders in general are unbelievable; always willing to share and help anyway they can. It was th

225. Re: painting blanks
I too am getting ready to paint a blank pink for my daughter and I do have an airbrush if needed. My question is to paint a dark gray/black rod can I expect the suggested paints to cover the dark blank with one coat or so(w/o a primer coat)? I too am worried about the build up since I am building a light freshwater rod.
For the record I checked Mudhole and their pink rods are heavier sal

I did see the ones at Mud Hole but they are saltwater. I guess I will just have to paint them. Thanks everyone for your input.

228. Pink Rod Blanks
Is anyone aware of where I might find decent constructed freshwater (trout or bass) rod blanks that are pink in color? All on a sudden I have two ladies and one little girl wanting pink fishing rods. I figure pink rods will be hard to find and I will have to most likely learn to paint them myself. Thanks in advance.

After doing much research, I choose the Flex Coat OEM 747. I am very happy with this unit and find it to be real joy to use. I can not find anything I do not like about it. I bought it from Fishsticks4u ( one of the sponsor's of this site) who gave me an excellent price.

Taxidermist use a product to preserve various plants that they use in there wildlife displays. You can check these preservative products out at WASCO (www.taxidermy.net). I'm not sure if it will work on a clover leaf, but it might be worth a try. Good luck!!

I have used rub -on letters with nice results. The leters come on a clear plastic sheet and all you do is rub the back side which transfers the letters to the rod. I got them at OfficeMax or Office Depot.

233. Wrapper Question
I have been researching power wrappers for quite some time have have been leaning towards the Flex Coat OEM DL747. My two concerns with this wrapper are:
1. Its base construction of fiber board being heavy and not as strong and durable as an aluminum base .
2.It can not be used to turn/sand cork and eva handles.
My second choice is the American Tackle power wrapper.
I have already

Thanks for the information. Does the fiber board seem strong compared to solid hardwood? What city is the factory in?
Thanks again.

Thanks for taking time to give your opinion on this machine. So far everything I have heard and read has been very positive on this power wrapper. Looks like I'll be ordering one soon.

I am considering purchasing a Flexcoat OEM power wrapper model DL747. I plan to use it to build rods as a small business and for my personal use. I am looking for comments, pro and con, from people who own or have used this unit. Thanks much!
