I am in the process of building a tenn. handle and was wondering what you guys use for the mounting rings. I have used the metal (Powder coated) rings in the past and also electrical tape. The guy I am building for complained when ever he fished with a tenn. handle the reel always falls off. Although its for salt water the application he wanted it for I talked him into a tenn. handle. Any sugges

BEWARE OF THE WODER REAMER. I have had good luck with rainshadow and forcast products and am not trying to give batson a bad name! I will be honest though. I was so excited when the reamers were anounced and actually pre purchased a full set 4 months in advance of the arrival on the market. I got mine and loved the looks of them and was touting them on this site and verbal to anyone who would lis

183. Re: Burnishing
Bill Proper burnishing should be done toward the center of the wrap not toward the ends. This may be what you are talking about as perhaps you loosened the wrap by burnishing toward the end???

Justin just a suggestion but if you shop at mudhole and your from fla you will pay tax. I am from fla and although i do some times buy from mudhole i prefer to shop at custom tackle. Bob is a stand up guy and is always willing to lend a hand or suggest what works. Come to the open house at mudhole and meet some of the builders from our state. Thats agreat way to learn and shake a couple of thousa

Curt i would be interested in this thread too. I waste soo many brushes and tried a sable once. I did meybe 3 or 4 rods with it till the first time i workeed a little too long and it was toast as the finish hardened on it. It was way too expensive to get only 3 rods out of it i could have bought 5 pack on 20 disposable for the price of that brush. Someone has too have a better suggestion as its s

Robert,
I have a renzetti and wouldn't trade it for anything. I have an old pac bay and consider it a toy next to the renzetti. Now thats my opinion and other people may disagree. The renzetti bearings seem to be real smooth so turning mine by hane at the tip is real easy. It will turn easly in reverse by hand also. The one thing i would do different with it if i designed it is it has no rever

188. wood reel seat glue
I am turning my own reel seats out of wood and for the inlaying checkerboards out of cocobolo and ebony. I have done many seats but have never done the inlays. I glued up using 5 min. epoxy and let dry for 24 hours. I always predrill before turning and while drilling the heat build up caused the epoxy to melt and the entire checkerboard fell apart. Needless to say very frustrating as there was a

Last year in High Point I attended a workshop on handle work. It just so happened that Mark sat next to me and showed me some of his checker handle work. He was also nice enough to pen out an article complete with pictures on how to do a checkerboard inlay. His method not only gave great explenation but simplified certain areas that too me were overwhelming. Since then I have been watching his wo

First off why not sdave those rings for a better use Im sure there will be a build in the future darby where you can use them. Now that said if you have to use them tape or twine or thread is really for a SLIGHT difference not for big spaces. I guess you could use the foam arbor but that could get expensive. Really the only weight factor you are looking at there is the epoxy for the glue up that

I use a thin coat of cp some times before cutting. I started it after Dale Clemons suggested it in his book and if theres any possiblity of movement i still use it. Espescially with closed wraps that are real tight and i had trouble packing even. We have all experienced getting the whole wrap done and begining the cut and tie off thing only to have the "Big migration" happen. This is on

What I believe is lost to you here Dave is the fact that this is a "offset" Tenn. handle. I would and do use the flexcoat drills in most cases myself to drill normal arbors. They however ofcourse have a center predrilled and you know the spot that the blank will sit as its always centered. Then I would normally just hit it litely with a reamer to account for the taper. The situation we
