The man has saved my butt many times. Class act all the way. I am leaning toward giving him all my business just based on customer service alone. How fast does he get blanks off to you guys? A lot of times when I get a job a customer wants it yesterday.

Steve I have a restoration top to bottom in my shop right now. I do quite a few every year as the salt water and high humidity here in the everglades does a number on rods. With the one I have i striped it top to bottom with a razor blade. You have to be VERY VERY careful so as not to get into the blank under the epoxy and paint. After its scraped I sand gently with 220 then 400 800 1000 4000. Se

Russ that is one of the only finishes where the manufacturer says you can thin. Go to there web site and they have a link on how many cc of acetone to thin it with. I stoped using flex because it turned yellow over time. Since i switched to threadmaster no prob

Ken Try to get ahold of Mark Blabaum. Last year in Mike Barkley's handle class in high point Mark gave out a tutorial on how to do checkerboard inlays out of wood. I have been following it and have had great success. He authored it and as far as i am concerned is the "guru" when it comes to checkerboards. I will warn you though once you get it down it is adictive. In his article he expl

Justin the first 15 years i built rods although most wern't one foot guedes when they were i never did the Forhan wrap and i don't remember one falling off ever. The forhan is a great idea and indeed a improvement but certainly not a necesaty. If all the rest as previously stated is correct you should be good as gold. Congratulations you may as well give up fishing now as your hooked on rod build

I have found St. Croix to be both good service and too me of great impotence they are honest. Honesty goes a long way in the business world and i am interested in if anyone else feels the same way. SC gets my business based on honesty as well as a quality product and customer service.

Most of the time the manufacturers recomendation is just that. When i buy the parts to build a rod if i don't already have the tips in stock I always buy a couple of sizes up and down of the spec. It will always get used and then i'm not stuck waiting for anything as time is money and a fit is a fit no abouts.

I was thinking of filling my rods with nitrous oxide then if an emergency hook removal happens just break the tip and suck to take away the pain. Great selling point.

Chris I have been using tm for a year and a half now. I started using the lite about two months ago and love it. It is clear as water and just as smooth. It is really a joy to work with. They both are since i started using tm all my finish problems are in the past. I can't sing enogh praises for it. As far as over decals the tm is great as its so clear and spreads out so even that its like its no

If I remember ritght it was talked about here recently you may want to do a search. If I remember right first off if you choose to remove and rewrap it will not void any warrenties. Also if i remember right you have a blank that is older as sage has not done this in a few years. like i said do a search as i know it was talked about here as there is another company that prewraps the ferrul or use

The other suggestion i wuold give is what I did. I bought a second motor and chuck and mounted it on the other end of my lathe facing right. That way i dont need to reverse the rod or wrap backwards. Especially handy with double footed guides I just wrap one side of all then slide the theread carraige over and go the other way. Doing this you don/t have to buy two master lathes either they will s

Thats what I use Jim. As far as looks go thats one of my favorite blanks. Wish other manufacturers of blanks would pay attentiong to color. I get really sick of working with black and grey blanks.

Scott Mr. Barkley (formal ha MIke?) is I think exactly on the point. It sounds to me as if something was preventing the adhesive from bonding and it wouold seem to me to me a cork filler if it was a preformed grip. Most of the pre formed grips have a filler they use as the cork for them is a lower grade. After sanding and shaping they are "mudded" with the cork filler and then one last

I do the thread trick the one caution i would give in addition to what Bob said or perhaps to elaborate on what he said. DON'T WRAP THE THREAD AROUND YOUR FINGERS. Good way to loose a finger.

Gavin lay the rings on a piece of 220 sand paper on a flat surface and run in circles a few times tu rn and repeat. Then take a tri cut file two or three groves inside the ring to help it adhere to the rod. I would stronly suggest you build your grip on quarter inch threaded rod and then when dry rimove and put on a mandrel. Lamar industries sells a quality mandrel just for this purpose. As to cl

I like that Tom wish I had a photo in your centerfold (someday Tom someday!!). That is all points very well taken and are the reasons I havn't invested yet in a camara when I do I want the best quality I can afford that will do the job for me. I had a 35 mm I spent a fortune on and its all outdated and the camara is broke and would cost more to fix then is worth. A real bummer considering its on

If I am not mistaken though Tom the problem is in addition to the 700 you will need a lens and a memory chip. I really need one also but an expert told me what I want it for I need a macro lens to take pics of guide wraps and with that camera I'm talking 1,000 with card and lens. Not to mention tri pod and remote button. Is this all true?
