To Tom's last point... how many top pros buy their rods anyway... I bass fish exclusively. My hook set varies according to what lure I'm fishing. If it's a worm or jig, I tend to real in the slack and "rip lips". If it has trebles, most of the time the fish takes care of the hook set. That being said, most of my trebles are on topwaters, so once they slam it and run, little need for

I could use some help. I am using the TM lite and I cannot get the stuff to level. I'm sure it's something I am doing but I've used 2 other epoxies and had absolutely no trouble with leveling. I've had this happen with the TM lite 3 times now. What do I need to different to get the same results for a smooth finish? Here's my process: - mix epoxy using syringes (doing 3cc of each) - mix it us

I think I will put my pflueger president on it. That gray reel ought to look sharp. Maybe cobalt with silver met trim. And maybe some silver glitter. Hmmm... that might be too much.

thanks.. good ideas! Ilike the way the cobalt looks with something else. Need to figure out which reel I am using now to match the trim.

I'm about to start on a SC IV casting rod. Any suggestions on thread colors? I've got most all of the gudebrod colors. Trying to figure out something that look really sharp on the gloss cobalt color.

Yes, used CP. I'll try to take a picture and post it. From the looks of it, just about any finish would have cracked. Looks like the rod took a pretty good whack on the guides.

st croix 3C62MXF with fuji LSGs. Casting rod. It wasn't from rod flex. I got to looking closer and the epoxy around the hook keeper, the first from the reel and the side guide (simple spiral) are all cracked. I think it at some point the rod got hit, dropped, bounced around, etc. Best explanation I can think of. I brought the guides down to a nice fine, tapered point. The crack on the one guide r

anyone ever have trouble with aftcote cracking. I looked at a rod I built and the epoxy had cracked along a couple guide foots. I'm sure it took a good blow, but with other rods I haven't had that happen. Maybe it was just a good whack it got!

what grade cork are you using? Could it be imperfections in the cork?

At the same time, even "a friend" could come visit you, slip on your front porch and break his arm and sue you. Same reason McDonalds has been forced to put "Caution: Hot Liquid!" on the side of their coffee cups.

That Strong Arm product was exactly what I was thinking of. There was a post somewhere about ideas being stolen... Can I claim that .. nope too late, their website was up first. Dang it!

I thought about going the @#$%& route myself at first, but I wasn't impressed with what was out there. Price or quality.

Could you mount some type of a cup to a handle so his limb could slide in to turn the reel handle maybe making it easier? You could even do the same thing with the rod. Mount a sleeve of sorts on the handle. In essence it would make the rod and extension of his arm. I used to shoot competitvely and there was a lady who shot an over under. Her left hand had been amputated and she had a leath

What about if you had the manufacturer's decal and one of your own on the rod?

Off the St. Coix website... "Over the years, there were a variety of goods manufactured that were essential to the development and success of the company. Solid and tubular rod blanks were sold to other companies such as Zebco and Waterking. Private brand rods were created for Orvis, L.L. Bean, Cabela's, South Bend, Cortland and many others. Sundry items such as Department of Natural Reso

I've been using Fuji LSGs on casting rods and pretty happy with them. Anyone have any experience where they can compare the American Tackle NIF Titan guides? Just wondering about durability mainly.

1487. Fuji ACSM
Got some Fuji ACSMs in the mail. I think I may like them a lot. The inside is definitely different though. Are you guys packing those grooves with epoxy? What is the logic behind that style design inside of the reel seat? I'm having to redesign my handles though. I usually turn a tenon on the end that slides up inside the reel seat. Not on the ACSMs. It's going to have to either be trimmed

Anyone very looked at a Kistler rod? Saw my first one today. Do they use normal cork? The rods I saw looked like a solid piece but they had a very different feel than the cork handles I'm using. They almost felt a little spongy. Different.

Well, I'm for it in it's current form. I don't want to have to take the computer in the bathroom with me.

Good info as always. I've been building on the SCIII and I absolutely love them. I had another person finally test one of my rods this past weekend (3C62MXF) and he pretty much wanted to know when he could have one built for him after two casts. Maybe I should stick with what I'm used to at this point!

I've been thinking of experiementing with Rainshadow rods. Are the Rainshadow RX8, RX7, and down comparable to the St Croix SCV, SCIV, etc? I'm not talking action but I mean sensitivity and durability. I know the SCV and the high end Loomis are not as "tough" for taking damage as say a SCIII but lighter and more sensitive. Would a RX8 be in that category too? Just trying to decide

Our local Hobby Lobby has an excellent selection of testors (and models). They even carry the higher end testors line. I think it's in a round bottle with a black label. Not sure what is better about this paint over the normal little square bottle. Could the pigment be better?

Just go ahead and start ordering all of the back issues. I'm slowly finding more and more reasons to. I got to quit reading this board.

Could it be your casting form is better with the shorter rod? The difference in weight (although not huge) and length may alter your body mechanics. Example: baseball bats come in different weights. Heavier doesn't always make a home run hitter if you can't control it and get the right swing motion. Also, I'm assuming a two hand cast on the 10 1/2'. You may be far more fluid slinging the 7 1/2

Guess it just shows the Wally World isn't the same every where ya go! What surprises me is there are so few models available for kids these days. I guess kids today don't build model cars like we all did.

Have a SCIII blank. Says it's a 5 tip top. 4.5 is too small and a 5 is just a bit big. I tried just epoxy and it slid off. I tried a bit of masking tape (not even one wrap around), and the tip top wouldn't slide on. Suggestions?

I had a request to have just the trigger of the reel seat silver. Any ideas on how I could do that and it be durable?
