I'd like to see a picture of a guide used for a rod tip. Can someone post one?

How many guides are you using? I would think there would be some resistance where the line drops from the reel to the guides, but I guess that could be overcome with spacing.

Bobby - I've been setting mine up (lightest line I use is 8# and heaviest is 15# flouro on baitcasters) with 10, 6 transition for spiral, 8, 7, and 6 the rest of the way with a 6 tip top. You saying you go 3.5 all the way?
Forum: rodboard 16 years ago
Alex Dziengielewski
Saw the post about 15# mono going through a 3.5 guide. If you used 3.5 on the say last 4 guides, how would you size the first few guides and do the step down to 3.5? Use a 7' casting rod for example.

You could try doing an epoxy ramp instead of using winding checks. I was a big winding check user until my last rod. I made an epoxy ramp, and I don't know if I will ever use winding checks again. I made the ramp, painted it black, finished it over and I thought it looked really sharp. The process is very easy to do as well. I'm thinking you could possibly paint it red or blue to your liking. 1449. Hotel for Rod Expo
Just booked on Hotwire and got a room for 3 at the Radisson for $49 per night.
While they don't give you the hotel name until you check out, it's listed as a 3-star in High Point - Archdale.
Hoepfully it won't be the worst room in the place, but had good luck with Hotwire before.

I thought about that, but color settings, etc vary greatly. Sometimes it can vary greatly from reality.
I looked up their website, but couldn't find where they said type of guide. Thx.

Have a customer wanting a GL2 (baitcasting) built pretty much the same as the factory but with a spiral wrap. What type of guides is Loomis putting on the GL2?
Also, I've never seen a factory one, so any idea what color thread thay are using, or what would match well? I have a pretty good thread selection, but knowing my luck, it will be that one color I should have ordered!
Thx!

Hey Marty...
I thought a computer engineering degree from Clemson was good for estimating fthe decomposition rate of hay at 37% relative humidity so you have enough hay to keep the cows fed all winter. JUST MESSING WITH YA. I went to The Citadel so thought I'd poke at someone else from a SC school.

This isn't related to the rod, but I "supertuned" a couple baitcasters and found that they performed much better with lightweight lures. I wasn't about to go to anything over 7' for bass fishing, so I went to the reel...
I'm happy with the result and took me a couple hours on each reel. Do a google search on "supertuning fishing reels" and you'll find an article a guy wrote

Having only built about 4 rods now, I will say the downloadable Mudhole videos were awesome for me getting starting. Tom's book was great also, but I learn better by seeing it, not reading it. Those little videos were priceless for me.

1457. EVA Butt
Since I've seen several EVA posts... this came to mind, now I want to make it but not sure how (dang site has inspired me to spend money AGAIN!).
I'm going to do a split grip with EVA (casting rod). Suggestions on how to do the butt cap?
I've always just done the split grip in cork and then used a EVA cap on the butt. How could I make the whole butt EVA? Turn a piece and then put a plug in

"...but the wait for some of these carefully wrapped masterpieces can be eternal."
Of the guys I know, that is the biggest reason they won't buy a custom rod. When they decide they want a new rod, they want it now or in the 3 days it takes to ship one to them from a big box. Lots of people want everything right now. :(

Do you know if the reel scrubber is the same as gun scrubber?

1462. fishing reel question
I know it's not rod related...
but what do you guys use to strip the existing grease and oil off your reels? I want something that will strip it clean but not damage the plastic parts.
I thought about using some gun scrubber, but I didn't know if it was a good idea on plastic. I know that stuff strips everything off my shotguns.
Also, which parts should be greased and which should be oi

1465. Re: Website suggestions
I agree about the font. Light background and dark letters is much easier to read. One thing to consider (without reading all these posts) is that colors vary widely between monitors. What you see may not be what the reader sees.
The site is attractive, but consider your clientele. Who is your customer base? How would they respond? This is in no way meant to offend anyone, but to me I would thi

1468. epoxy on guides
When using the lower profile guides like a fuji lsg, I'm having trouble getting epoxy on the front end of the guide. What happens is I end up with a drop of epoxy that looks terrible because although it's a small drop (using a pick to apply as little as I can) the guide is so close to the blank that the drop of epoxy is almost up to the ring. I think what is happening is when I apply the epoxy to

I wonder if they are orange because of the fibers or if they are pigmented/dyed/tinted orange for marketing purposes. I'm guessing the latter.
