I have done this on my atlas metal lathe to turn grips down...made a base to clamp down on top of the metal lathe ( like John Powell stated ) so i can use the wrapper supports...the key here is to really support the blank.....never to many supports.....

I was lucky to get mine at the summerset NJ show....cut a little from the tip and added to the butt, built as a split grip spinning rod with microwave guide system.....great blank for light bucktailing fluke....cant wait to give it a go at jigging blackfish this fall.....thank you Jane Park from jig n pop

sharpen a piece of copper pipe....put over area and hit with hammer...punches them right out.....good luck

My blanks just recently started walking out of the chuck and tried everything to correct the problem.....was close to ordering the alps chuck....I put a square across the bottom track and found that the chuck support bracket wasn't square on the track.....squared it up and all is good ..no more slippage......

I leave the butt cap to the end of the build so the jaws will clamp down on the blank.........

got this little trick from BILLY40 of the NERBS......get a plano box and put the spools in seperate spaces and drill a tiny holes in the lid...one thread in each hole..then gather the threads in your hand and wrap...no tangles...
