631. Re: Which CP?
The color of thread will make a difference. I've had that happen with Tan thread.

I have always heard and refered to that as the point where the blank "Shuts off". Meaning the same thing, it won't bend any more.

633. Re: underwraps
Chuck; I might suggest that if you really want to underwrap use something on the order of 00 or 000 silk and keep it as short as possable. In that way depending on the finish you normally use the additional weight will be at a minimum. Depending on how much adornment you want you may be hard pressed to feel the difference.

634. Re: Underwrap?
Michael; You would do well to read the article in the library here on this site on how to set up the guides for a spinning rod. Using smaller lighter guides will make for a much more sensitive and efficient rod.

Put the new one on the same way you did the first one but line it up and then don't touch it until the epoxy sets. You may want to cut a small groove in the bushing to let trapped air escape when you push the gimbal on. That will keep it from being pushed back by the compressed air. That may have been what caused your problem in the first place.

" it's unique and done on a size and scale that you really have to participate in to believe."
I think what Tom has stated here is one of the things that makes Charlotte so different from other shows. Those that attend can truly "participate" rather than just wander up and down the isles with the flow of traffic.

Ray; If you opt for central California you might talk to the Holiday Inn at the airport in Fresno about room rates. They are across the street from the Airport with easy access.

Brendan; You might try going to the library section on this site and read the articles on guide placement. That should get you off on the right foot. You can also do a search on Guide placement and probably get more than you want.

642. Re: how long
Andy; The Baby Dragon head took a little over 90 hours to complete. That's an exception to what most will take. A weave like that one had never been done before and with good reason if you are trying to make a living building rods. Not many clients would pay the price for it. I don't have to make a living at it and love what I do and have the time to do it. It's art for the sake of the ar

644. Re: A vs. D. Thread
Jordan; For roller guides I do an underwrap of "A" put in any trim bands that I want and apply a coat of CP if you need it or a thin coat of finish or both, I use permaglos. Then an overwrap of "A" and another of "C".

647. Re: Forhan wrap?
Dan; The Forhan locking wrap is easy to do and is well worth the effort. Wrap the guide as normal to the point the guide stem starts to rise off the blank, insert your pull through and make one turn behind the guide as though you were adding security wraps. On the next wrap bring the thread past the guide foot and then wrap it back around the stem of the guide and then complete the turn aroun

Steve; I used Madeira #40 Polyneon for the design over Gudebrod "C". There are 7 colors: Yellow, Green, Light Green, Light Blue, Red, Chartreuse, and White. As I recall 180 design threads and about 220 wraps. There were so many color changes that each wrap took about 20 minutes to complete.

Richard; Have you read the articles in the library here on guide placement? I made a post on this in the above double but 10 or 12 does seem a bit excessive. What kind of rod and guides are you using?
Forum: rodboard 18 years ago

Richard; You're not giving us much to go on here but if you have read the articles in the library on this site for guide placement and follow the advice there, I would say whatever the rod is telling you will be correct.

652. Re: UL Weave
Leon; I'm not quite sure what you are referring to in your question when you say aspect ratio. The blank circumference will limit the number of design threads in your patterns but the aspect ratio (length to width) of the design is taken care of in the pattern or by the size of the wrapping thread to the design thread. I use a wrapping thread at least one size larger than the Design thread. J

Steven; The design threads of different colors for any row are stacked one on top of the other when you place the threads on the rod to begin with. In your example you would stack Blue and Yellow one over the other at the same location. Then after four wraps on the fifth wrap take the Blue thread from the stack on the right and move it to the left and leave it there for three wraps (complete

I know, I know different degrees of manual dexterity and intellectual levels. We only have to take one thread at a time from the right to the left and then turn the rod (once) then take one or more threads (one at a time) from the right to the left and maybe some from the left back to the right (one at a time) turn the rod once. Simple...
See you guys in Charlotte....

I use at least two coats of Gudebrod 811 color preserver and then a coat of Permaglos before the finish. I do not like to thin the CP but will add a few drops of denatured alcohol if the stuff is too thick. Depending on availability and how soon you need thread I order mine from Madeira (1100 meter spools) or buy the regular spools from a store that carries what I want if I'm in a hurry.
