Sounds like you need to talk to Emory Harry, or read his prior posts. I always learn new bits of useful info every time I talk to him or read his round table discussions on prior posts, but I've also never had more "Brain Is Full" alarms go off since college when he explains some aspects of this craft. I repeatedly go back and reread his articles in RodMaker magazine.

William,
Reading all the Common Cents info at the site in the upper left corner would be a good start. Than use the search function and pick up lots of earlier info on things like "resonant frequency".

You can also build up the blank a little where you want your reelseat with the thread your using on your guides, apply some finish than fit the reelseat to the new area. Gives a nice finished but different look.

5975. Re: EVA gap at forgrip
Whatever you use to shim it , tape, thread, etc. Once you completely encapsulated it in Rod Bond so water, etc. can't get to it your set up for life. Just install a winding check of some sort on the end to hide the gap.

5976. Re: Rogue Rod Guides
I'm not aware that Rogue has changes suppliers, all mI've seen have been Fuji Alconites. They have this information on their website. Measure the ceramic ring's OD to get the right guide size in mm. Measure rod tip in 1/64th of an inch to get the tube size to order. There are half sizes in the tube size. The paperwork says the DS704 blank I used was a 5 tube, that doesn't mean yours will be. Bill,
I don't think the Recoils will remove coatings any faster than the thin wire guides that Sage and others have put on their rods. If you need your lines to last longer, ceramic fly guides are the solution. Another is to dress your line with ZipCast before use to clean and lube, dirt and crud I think are the #1 problem.

If I finish the sanding with 220 or lighter sandpaper I've had no problem seeing scratches.

Jason,
Check out the Classic Custom Wood site to the left, the rod grip section, he has a tutorial there on the IPS grips.

5980. Re: Combat Salmon Blank
Combat fishing only happens in a few places that I'm aware of in my area, Blue Creek on the Cowlitz River and the area near the locks at Bonnevile Dam on the Columbia River. Both are bank fishing where the amount of people on the bank in one spot is virtually shoulder to shoulder. A shoreline version of party boat east coast, pier fishing a good pier or long haul fishing from San Diego for those

Mark Crouse at The Rod Shop can help you with those type blanks. Been a while since I played with the european rods, but if my memory is correct the 2 1/4 lb blank would take that amount of weight to put a determined 90 deg curve in the blank.

5982. Re: Here we go again -
Rainshadow used to have their blanks built at All Star in the earlier days before Cascade Composites and I've thought them to be pretty close in characteristics. Unlike the Pac Bay Professional blanks which I thought had their own characteristics entirely when All Star made them. Batson IST or ST1265F, 10 to 20 lb line, 3/8 to 1 1/4 oz. lure wt., Mod Fast action, Med Hvy Power rating. The All Sta

I'd look at the Batson SWS597 also. Have some guys that like the blanks for boat fishing salmon and legal size sturgeon in the Columbia around Longview/Woodland/ Trojan/Rainier area. They cast nicely also.

The darkest Struble makes is rosewood, Batson makes a walnut. Batson used to also have ebony, but I haven't seen them lately. Ordering from somone who has quite a bit of stock like Angler's Workshop, they could pick the darkest insert they have before sending it.

Jay,
Not so sure that the GLX rods have that much of an advantage over other blanks overall. There are some exceptions, but basically I just got to play with a fair number of the Powell bass rods and they were all at or less weight than the GLX rods there. Some in the same power class weren't even close. Some of the Kistler rods are almost a full oz lighter than the factory GLX rated for the sam

I believe that is the 5 power salmon/steelhead blank. Same specs as the Rainshadows I believe.

5987. Re: Buying Blanks
Put Angler's Workshop also on the list just need a business license. Than you have all the tax stuff to collect yourself afterwards that is in the retail price of the blank and components.

5988. Re: Rod Bag
Bill,
I've had Angler's made some bags for me over the years, they indeed a fine product and they back their quality also.
Was just adding that I seen some nice bags there also for a great price out front the last time I was in there. Bought one of the Corduroy rod/reel bags to try on my Loomis HS 9000 rods and bought a few of the what looks like mid weight taffeta generics also. Fishing out

5989. Re: Which Blank ??
The Shikari ultralights I had some years ago were very similar to the Loomis blanks. They may have changed some over the last 10+ years though.

Mike,
I've been told by many angler's and builders that the butterfly jigs work best with specific designed limber tipped blanks and high speed reels. The Calstar Graphiter GFX blanks were designed for them. The good people at Mudhole carry them and should be able to help you with selection of the blank for your needs.

My favorite for that color blank is Gudebrod Garnet with silver trim. It's on all my Dan Craft rods.
Also like the Angler's Workshop dark garnet thread.

5992. Re: Rod Bag
The bags were not on the site, but setting in boxes right at your feet at the front door. The rod/reel bag was a Loomis corduroy bag I believe with a nice zipper opening. The more generic bags they had were way cheaper. Dave at the front counter can give you the scoop.

They also have some misc. bags for different sized rods including rods with reels for a great price right now, call for details, most expensive one I saw was $5 for the rod with reel in the boxes.

Reggie,
The Reddington blanks are a nice HD blank, but weight and sensitivity wise they don'r rate up there with the Loomis or Sage blanks I've used. They make a fine HD saltwater rod from what little experience I have had with them.

Madeira also makes a glow in the dark thread, in different colors, in the Poly Neon line of threads. I imagine the metallics are reflective to a certain extent. @#$%& had them.

Tony,
Lots of info on shikari and other blanks in the search engine on the site. Just let your fingers do the walking. For instance, putting in drop shot blank I'm willing to bet that the fine SH II P 7000, SH III IP 7000, or SHX PP 7000 Shikaris mentioned. This type actioned blank can be also found in other company's blank lines.

Unless something is different in this seat from the regular Fujis the ID max diameter is 15mm for a blank thru reelseat. If what they say is true than maybe one of the kevlar tubes ar required to fit the reelseat/grip and you arbor up the blank to fit the tube.

Gil,
If you can't find or get a guide you can always change all the ceramics to the Batson LTCUDCG light TiCh frame/ring guides that would a pretty close match I think.

I've also used some of the citrus paint/finish strippers to remove rod blank finishes with good results.
