As far as I know all mail/baggage handlers are the same. Back when I worked in a small post office the parcels would come in early in the am. They were to be sorted and put at the case for the route they belonged. The person that sorted them would stand in one spot and literally throw them into the hampers for the routes they went to. No matter if they were 15 feet away it flew through the ai

Andy that was a great tip/link to share. I book marked that page on the stabilizing even though I don't own a lathe or turn wood grips. You never know what the future may hold & that is one interesting tutorial and a great idea. Thanks again! Jay

It souds like your grip wasn't squared befor they popped it off the mandrel. I'm thinking some careful work with sandpaper should at least square the end? This still doesn't solve your problem of the hole being off. Contact Shoff before you do anything. Jay

As already stated, heat will speed up the setting time of epoxy. This doesn't just apply to the already mixed epoxy. It also applies to the separate bottles before mixing. Be careful how hot you get them if you microwave or boil before mixing. Actually they shouldn't be 'hot' at all. Room temperature, or just above, should allow the epoxy to flow from the bottles easily. If the two parts ar

I saw an outdoors program on TV just this past week where they were 'fishing' for paddlefish. As Putter said, it's a 'snag' fishery. They were using long, heavy spinning rods with huge 8/0 treble hooks. It looked, um...well...very....uh....."sporting". Jay

They are not cheap...as you already pointed out. I pay almost $50 for the SHD sizes and I buy wholesale. You'll have to pay to play. Another option is to go with a hard ring tip top. This will save you LOTS of money. Jay

For the specific blue you're looking for I suggest purchasing the blank that matches all the other criteria you require EXCEPT for the color. Don't even worry about what color the blank is...buy it & paint it. This way you get exactly what color you want...well as long as you find the paint in the color you want which really shouldn't be a problem. Painting a blank is just another way of m

I've seen it posted on this site that to get a truer white on a dark blank you'll need to use white paint under the wrap. Any other suggestions? I'd like to know also. Jay

Yes that's right. The older GL3 blanks were the color of your older rod. The new GL3 blanks are mahogany in color. Jay

Yep, Permagloss will eat up Krylon. It's been said here that Permagloss is ok to use with some automotive spray paints like Plasti-Coat. If you sprayed with clear already, Permagloss shouldn't be needed. If you are looking for a clear that is safe to apply over the Krylon, use spar urethane. That will work fine and will not eat up your paint job. Jay

Having not had any of these guides in my hand, I would suspect they are sort of like Ti framed eye glasses. Those things are incredibly light & very 'soft' in the fact that they bend if you blow on them hard...yet they spring right back in shape every time. This is of course just a guess on my part. Jay

Putter is talking about the pigments they use over in the 'paint' section of the store...the pigments they add to large paint cans to make custom colors in-house. Jay

The instructions say wait 1 hour to re-coat. I suggest waiting several hours although it was suggested to me to wait 24. Re-coat too soon and the vapors from the underlying coat will get caught in the top coat and form bubbles. Also when you get most of the bottle gone beware of the thickening product. It will set before it has a chance to vaporize causing bubbles. Great stuff otherwise.

I just visited the rodcrafting.com site for the first time (don't know how I've missed that link for so long) and I can't figure out how to register. I've hit every hyperlink on that page and not one has had anything to do with registering. You have plent of opportunities to log in, but it seems no opportunity to register. I'm sure I over looked something way obvious...someone help me out?

I'm in agreement that I think it only 'looks' like the guides are glued on. I always have people ask me what kind of paint I used to cover the guide feet. Andrew, when you apply epoxy over the thread that holds the guides on it has a tendency to meld everything together. It sort of 'melts' the individual threads into a seamless object...especially when you use smaller threads like size A. It

Different guides have the rollers on different sides of the frame anyway. Even those manufactured by a single company can have a model with the rollers on one side and another model with the rollers on the other side (Aftco HD vs. SHD for instance). Normally there is a more vertical side and a more slanted side to the guide frame. The more vertical side usually goes toward the tip and the slan

For a strictly trolling rod I personally would put my butt guide at 60 degrees, next guide at 120 degrees, then 180s the rest of the way. You can generally put your butt guide where it would normally go (as far as distance from the reel) & should have the transition complete in another 15 inches or so. Does this sound logical to everyone else? Should be a pretty straightforward setup I thi
