IMO no benefit, perhaps a detriment as it means more joints with glue or epoxy. I have been fly fishing and building fly rods for many years, and do not know of any U.S. maker using 1/4" rings.

I find the 4wt Iconoglass to load very well with a Rio Gold 4wt line (=4.5wt). I caught Trout up to 20" with it in large Montana rivers It is easy to cast 60+ feet with a single haul.

First of all, do not cut a fly rod blank! Buy the length you want, they are available. Cutting a fly rod blank vastly changes the action. mostly poorly! I fish the Iconoglass 7'6' 4wt and absolutely love it. It is not wimpy! MHX fly blanks are very good, especially for their price points. For me, color is the last feature I consider as it does nothing for performance. You cannot make a mis

There are reamers made for the purpose available from most of the suppliers on the left. They can be used either by hand or chucked in a hand drill for power.

When usingg black thread, there is no reason to use a colorfast or NCP thread. NCP thread is not as vibrant as regular nylon.

Mr. Ewaniki, American importers also have American workers! I suspect you have little financial knowledge only erroneous opinions.

By the time you figure it out through experimentation, you could have bought a better reamer. Grit on blank piece will work, but they can have problems of loose grit scratching a blank

Phil Ewaniki, you made the following statement! "A large segment of the fly-line market in our U.S.A. consists of fly lines made in China" I challenge you to present DATA to back up you claim!

Phil, are you saying the "name brand" fly lines are made in China? If so, please advise which brands! As to my knowledge as a former supplier to USA line manufacturers, I no of NONE!

In the case of Sage, it's all about marketing their products! New models with marketing hype stimulate new sales. There is a market acceptance for purchasing the "latest and greatest, and to the disappoint of many.....it works! There are many blanks being sold today, that are the equivalent to Sage or other big name rods, for far less $. It is the buyers responsibility to make the purchas

I also find that CP does effect the luster of metallics. Most CP's are acrylic solutions that can leave a film on the surface, that's how they work.

You did not mention the type of drill bit you used, I find a brad pint bit is very far less likely to wander off center. That said, 8" is a long way to drill a non-ridged material, drilling from each end, may be the solution.

Let's see if I can use the harmonics data? To my customer: this blank has way better harmonics then the one you were thinking about, his response......so what!

I think Aleks, superbly explained the differences in dealing with a retailer/wholesaler, and a manufacturer. They have different business models and one should not expect, the very same responses and services from each. In essence, there is a compromise in expectations, that one needs to accept, in order to get the benefits, of product cost and quality.

I believe there is a lesson here, on one using this forum to vent personal frustrations ! Using a public forum to "harass" a supplier does no one any good, and some might it, a "cheap shot!"

No matter how close you cut the initial tag end, it should then be completely covered by the subsequent wraps and should not create a nub.

I build only fly rods and only one of my customers wants a hook keeper. As mentioned above, in fly fishing it is best to keep all the knots outside the guides! To do this most fly fishermen I know pull out the leader and some line, then loop it around the reel and hook the fly on a guide somewhere up the rod. Thus you just, unhook the fly and you have enough outside the tip to start casting.

The only way that I know a carbon fiber rod can take a set, is if it is exposed to high heat while in a curved state. Seen it happen with a rod in a back window of a pickup truck.

Darrin, good on you ! As mentioned above, it is likely to be futile, as Ewaniki's lack of business acumen, fuels his ignorant positions regarding contributions and profits. He is constantly trying to "push the rope"!!!
