I think the only problem with the "canned" air is the moisture that somtimes is expeled from the cans . I do use air from a compressor to "clean" the wraps (guide) before epoxy . Drain the separator first . John NERB

Check out the library on the top of this page . All the answers are in the static guide placement artical . Start there and if you have any specific questions , you can ask them . To answer your question is it the same , it's quite simmilar to a spinning rod . Start with 1 guide per foot of blank , then add or take a guide out to get the line to follow the bend in the blank . The easy way out is

I had a complete blast meeting all of the vendors , and wandering the city with Al, Mike, Sean ,and even the shoe bomber. All of the vendors were exelent ,and the public in that part of the country is sooo polite and friendly. ........... it was a pleasant change from the rat race of New England. The only thing I forgot to do was eat a grit .

My favorite part is lining up 12 single foot Recoil guides with locking wraps on a 12 ft switch rod in low light . Gringing #1wire fly guides , and cleaning Threadmaster out of the carpet .............. LOL
I really like to build the handles with different color corks and EVA . I do not like wrapping all that much . Kinda' like TRavis , I think I have 8 or 10 rods with the handles done and gu

Billy , taht reminds me of teh time I had to do an "easy" decal on a $700 brand new factory Scott fly rod for teh owner of Westport outfitters . Teh rod must have had wax on it ........even after I cleaned it with denatured , it still fish eyed ................. drove me nuts thinking that I had ruined such an expencive rod .
It will all come out in the wash ...... Only a few days l

I second the cork REC , though my 1wt has the REC figured walnut (mourtised) with the nickle bands and cap . Once you strap a reel and line the rod , I don't think you will notice the difference(cork or wood) , even in a rod of that peteite calibur . Just my oppinion . Have a blast with that rod , I love mine ! John

Jeff , as Bill mentioned the single foot fly guides with ceramic incerts are hands down supirior to snake guides . I use wire single foot on 4wt and under fly rods , usualy REC recoils , or the Tic coated wire . On Rods 5wt and above , I like the smooth casting , quiet retrieve , of incerts . SIC , or Alconites are on the list for my own rods . The difference in the two is night and day (wire

Advantage....... less wraps = less weight / finish epoxy . Some will claim that single foot fly guides are more "round" preventing line to blank contact vs. snake guides . I don't think they will be much lighter than snakes though they may be . This is all assumeing that you are compareing wire SF to wire snakes . There are many builders who will not use snakes on any rods they build e

Bill , take Spencers advice and find as much that is posted by Mr. Meiser as possible . I had the privlege of talking with him in person (over the phone) last year . Bobs name came up on every thing "spey" that I found on any site either related to building or spey fishing . Bob is one nice guy to chat with and is the front runner concerning rod construction and component choice . I r

The knowledge that can be had in just one "hands on" visit with a bunch of guys is unbelievable . The gatherings for the NERBS club are fun and full of little tip and tricks . No better way to meet new builders in a realativly close area to where you live . Check out the directory on the top of the page for guys listed in your state , you may be surprised how many rodbuilders live in

I had the same question too ..... I plan on talking with Bill Stevens or Tom at the show to find out . Let's wait and see if there is an answer here . A lot of guys like the smaller Dia of grip with the cork tape , I think the flock will just make it a lot more comforable , durability would be a bonus also . John
