Nick, I know of one builder in the Ft. Lauderdale area that tried to start a club in that area a couple of years ago but just didn't have the time to devote. If you email me I can put you in touch with him. Todd todd@mudhole.com

Ofer, we had a similar experience in one of our classes. When Gudebrod was initially going out of business and we couldn't get the variety of colors we needed we substituted PacBay Thread in the Regular Nylon. Well when the students in the class started applying color preserver about half of them had the guides start falling off. The thread just swelled up and the guides came out. After checking

Drew, I have to agree with Roger on this. I think you will find different actions between the SCV and the Lami. What type of application do you intend it for and where are you fishing it at? Todd

I think you will find that the 42" regular model will work well for your "Manly Fish". Todd

An often used blank for many years for this application is the Lamiglas, BT1083M.

Lorenzo, that is a model that Bob and I have discussed and could eventually see in the lineup. As Matthew said we have been quite busy with development and testing of new models. There are somewhere around 60 new models just in a few new series thats not counting just fill in models. As for the original post here the current MHX fly's are 50 million modulus, if you have been waiting for HM's t

Tom, weight & construction are very similar. Tapers have changed some on the spin jig & Mag bass models but on the Popping you will find almost identical tapers. Material is almost identical and construction is done similarly as to maintain fiber alignment. Todd

If you are pretty much always throwing that 1 3/4 + range then I'd recommend getting the model rated up to 2 1/2 oz. I don't think I would get a model that tops out at what I regularly throw.

Do your yard practice on your knees. Also use the stripping basket for practice if you are using it in your boat.

For quick fish you dont cast them anyway and a more moderate rod works better running them.

Douglas, check out this blank. ST1355-MHX 2pc 11'3" 10-20 1/4-1 Mod-Fast Med-Hvy While it's listed as Mod/Fast I don't know of an 11' model that will get any faster than this.

Russ, on a polished surface you can take a courser grade of paper (like one that comes off of an inexpensive note pad) and cut into strips and then buff on your power wrapper.

Brian, one option I can recommend for learning is the Rod Building classes that we offer from Mud Hole Custom Tackle. We have one in Houston in September. On top of that we are the largest distributor of Rod Building Components in the World. We also offer every major US blank manufacturer.

Robbie, I have to 2nd what Matthew Jacobs has recommended. For a very traditional CB action but with greater sensitivity and lighter in physical weight the MHX Crank Bait series is the cats meow. These blanks are available from 6'6" through 8' lengths in pretty much any line and lure you will be needing. And don't forget that Mud Hole Custom Tackle is your "one stop" shopping de

Craig, I know what you refer to as King Fish in Australia is different from what we have here around our shores. My recommendation would be for a 2pc model: LSSU1082ML 9'0" 2pc. 12-20 lb. 3/8 - 2 oz Fast Butt OD 0.725" Top 6.5 Blank Wt. 4 3/8 oz. for a 1pc model: LGSB1081L 9' 1pc. 12-25 lb. 1/2 - 2 1/2 oz. Mike, I would recommend the SA1086F for that. We even list Plunking in the application chart for that model. Now 10 oz. is a lot of weight so you would be lobbing it with that blank. If you really want to sling 10 oz. you will need to look at a surf blank, in the surf area we have the LSBT1202M which is a composite blank and would handle those weights a little better.

Chris, This sounds very similar to what we would do off of the Oregon/Washington coast for California Sea Perch. What I found best was something like the Mag Taper action. Although I don't ever remember going over 3 oz the tip is soft enough to throw live bait yet has a tremendous amount of power in the butt. This type of action is also available in the MHX line in 8'6"-10' in the Steelhea

Gary, I think you are looking at something more like a GF700/800M or ML.
