I refuse to deal with any US company that insists on shipping via UPS just because of their unreasonable charges. They charge double what FedEx charges & 5 to 10 times as much as CPOST. When I order out of the US my preferred shipping method is USPS air parcel.
So if you are a retailer that want's Canadian bussiness think about changing shipping companies.

Looks like Jay's in Kentucky, not alot of steelhead & Salmon in his neighbourhood. But there is some decent trout fishing. He could always plan a trip for some Ohio steelies..... probably closest option.

I swear by casting gear and 9 foot med hvy rods for chucking spoons for Arctic Char, Steelhead & Salmon. The control & power they have makes landing these powerful fish much easier. Steering a big salmonid out of a powerful river is akin to torquing a big ole hawg outa the slop :-)

What's up Doc..........sorry couldn't resist.
I am looking @ doing some weaving and would like to know which of your jigs I should get, I will mostly working on rods less than .700 butt dia. Would you suggest the 80 or 100 thread jig? Also what advantages your choice has over the other.

I would measure both blanks at several points between the butt and 5 inches up to see what the difference is. If there is little difference I would just go for it and see how it turns out.

I think there is still a little confusion here. When fishing steelhead and salmon as in bass fishing there are many different techniques. For example skipping tubes under docks with a spinning rod, tossing jigs or spinnerbaits with a bait caster, tossing bait with spinning or bait casting gear or tossing fly’s. Steelhead and salmon fishing is similar...........sort of. Spinners, plugs and

It does'nt really matter acording to those in the know. But to make things easy casting rods on the outside of the curve, spinning & fly on the inside.

I have been talking to Tom about Canadian distribution. I am still trying to work out the details of shipping over the border.
I have been very busy over the last month as I am moving next week, so I have put it on the backburner for now. Hopefully I'll have time in Feburary to look at getting Rodmaker Magazine back in Canada.

586. Re: Cocobola Dilema
I made a couple of fly boxes out of cocobolo. I washed with acetone and finished them with some gun stock finish, not sure of the brand. And had problems with it remaining tacky also. I ended up leaving the pieces set a side for quite a while and it eventually hardened up, at which time I sanded with 1000 grit and recoated and let dry. Once the initial coat hardens finishing the rest is easy, it'

If you are looking for a really unique reel seat in blue check this out.

I purchased one and am very happy. I also wanted a spinning seat and Dave turned one for me with matching butt cap & hosel.
If you are looking for graphite there is one available from American Tackle & Pac Bay makes a nice aluminum one.

I am ready to order guides for my first build and would like some input please.
The rod will be an ultra light spinning rod for Grayling, Whitefish & small Lakers based on a 3/4 wt 8 foot IM6 fly blank. The guides I have chosen are as follows AmTac GCSF-20,GCSF-12,GCSF-8 & then GZTF-5's to the tip.
This rod will be a warm weather rod so I don't have to worry about icing problems.

I wouldn't use a belt sander under any condition as it is too hard to control the amount of material being removed. All of my sharpening has been done by hand using the Scary Sharp system. This system uses a piece of plate glass with different grades of wet/dry sandpaper glued to it. In the article on the link the author goes all the way down to 9000 grit. I feel this is a little too much, I have

600. Which One ????????
OK, so I'm just getting into this hobby & I would like to know what speed motor I should get to build my drier? What speed is best for applying finish? I have seen tons of motors from 4.8 to 40 rpm. I could use info on what speed is good for what.
Please help...........My Brain Hurts :)
