"Fiberglass rods, on the other hand, can and often do begin to break down within the life of their owners. Heavy power surf sticks cast often and hard can fatigue in just a few seasons, to the point where there is a noticeable loss in power and response" Tom, you're being far too generous. I turned an Ugly Stick Heavy surf rod into a noodle in one year. The Extra Heavy took two years

Tim, Thank you for the detailed description. I have seen a glass jar containing a good amount of Diamondite Rod Finish set up. The builder had mixed far too much for the job at hand. The clarity of the hardened finish was amazing. It was very very impressive. Mahalo for bringing a great product to the market. Don

"The reels would be Penn SS series, up to an 850SS" Jim, Take a look at the Daiwa Emblem and EmCast reels. The spool of the Penn SS series does not favor distance casting. In my opinion, you would be trading durability for distance. If you are not casting very far, the Penn could be the better choice. Will you be using braid? If you are, another choice of Penn reels that is ma

Hi Jeff, It really was amazing. It is held on Oahu and is located about (guessing) midway between Waikiki and the airport. Pacific Ocean Producers is located on Pier 38 and has their tackle shop at that location. This is where the people who want to sell their fresh catch drop off fish for the @#$%& block. Here's a link to the PIFG web site. You will be able track next years event. There i

Robert, Lamiglas does have a heavier blank rated 65 to 100# and is 7' 6" long. An easy way to find a Lamiglas blank is to use my web site. Click on Length & Line. Those are the sort orders. The site does not include bass or fly blanks. Hope it is helpful, Don

The Lamiglas Travel Series may meet your needs. Here's a link that lists several Lamiglas blanks in a "hopefully" easy to use fashion. I use alconites on my surf rods and have not had any problems. I always wash down my rods with fresh water after use. I built the CTS surf rods that I designed and tested with alconites. These guides were subjected to abuse by large shock le

What type of fishing will it be used for? Lure Bait casting-dunking (letting bait sit for an extended period) Bait casting-pounding (changing bait frequently) I believe that in Hawaii most lure and pounding rods are built with the guides inside the spine (inside the curve), while dunking rods are built with guides on the outside. A number of people are satisfied as long as the guides are

"they are of a single helix construction and are a little prone to breakage." Just for a little clarification. During initial testing of the CTS Makoi line, I broke the first prototype's handle. After the handle was strengthened and two additional prototype blanks were added to the series, I destroyed the ferrules on all three by repetitive casts. This led to the use of a woven gra

Bill, I'm a little lost by your question. Is the blank all graphite? Composite tip? Here's what I understand: Axial strain can cause the fibers to break down. This is reported to be prevalent with fiberglass rods. So, if the blank is composite and uses fiberglass to provide additional hoop strength, it may be helpful to replace some of the fiberglass with carbon fiber. Depending on th

"My point is that spine orientation is not going to give you a noticeably more powerful blank. Yes, the blank will be more powerful in one place (concave) and least powerful in another (effective spine) but the difference between the two is very slight." When you put together all the factors for casting, it does make a difference. This includes spine, oil, bearings, spool balance, l
