"I remember when I was young my father put reflector tape in between the guides on Ulua Rods that we fished at night. It was to identify which rod was getting a bite when we were fishing multiple rods. We also hung bells on them to detect a strike." While bells do an excellent job at announcing a strike, there is concern by some that a cautious fish may be spooked by a bell. Although

Danny, Random thoughts. If you decide to turn a two piece rod into a one piece, you may want to consider not using any adhesives. A lot of people have problems with two piece rods being stuck together and they can't get them apart. They immediately heat the ferrule and twist as hard as possible. For a sleeved ferrule, they should atempt to warm the handle side of the ferrule and chill (i

Hi Danny Here is a possible solution with Lamiglas components. Butt Extention length = 75", OD at ferrule=0.87 inches, at butt=1.27 inches measured GSB 132 1L, length 11 feet, 30#, 2 to 6 ounces, 1 piece GSB 132 1M, length 11 feet, 40#, 4 to 12 ounces, 1 piece 1. You will need to check if the Butt Extention will fit the GSB 132 models 2. The lure rating may be in question. The GS

Hi Tom, Thank you for the referral. Danny, I'm not sure what you want. Line, Lure, Action? Here's what may fit your need: Lamiglas GSB 180 2MH Graphite, 15', 2 piece, considered medium heavy, equal length tip and handle. We (Hawaii) consider it to be rated at 30 (possibly 40) # line, 4 to 7 ounce lure, moderate action. It is light weight with a good back bone. I believe

Century, Zziplex and Conoflex are manufactured in the UK. Century & Zziplex surf rods are often used as tournament casting rods. Conoflex builds fishing rods & blanks. Although, I do own Conoflex tournament casting rods. I would rate these three companies as the top companies for building quality long distance fishing rods. Previously, the strength of the pound caused me to see

A good quality 14' hmg rod over here is about $200 so just wanted to compare. " I do not know a company that currently builds surf rods with HMG. Garreth, I take it that you are looking for a US manufacturer to minimize the number and amount of shipping fees and import taxes. 13-14ft HMG graphite surf blanks fast action and capable of casting 6-8 ounces or heavier. One piece and three heavy to XX heavy power. Here's the only US made blank that I know of that comes close to meeting your requirements. Although it is rated at 6

Shawn, The folks in Hawaii routinely use wide 4/0 and 6/0 reels to target ulua. Occasionally a large shark will be hooked into that the 6/0 reels loaded will 100# mainline cannot stop. The method is to cast a 10 or 12 ounce sinker and then slide a bait out. Live fish, fresh octopus, and eel are used. The blanks are imported from Korea by Ken Kimura.
