Today I had the pleasure and honor of testing Lamiglas' newest product.
The GSB 156 2M is 13' 0", lure 3 to 5 ounces, line 15 to 25#, tip size (tube) 10/64, blank weight 14 1/8 ounces. The tip and handle are of equal length. Sleeved ferrule. The action is moderate-fast.
I built the rod using Alconites.

Tom,
I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I'm not aware of any one piece Lamiglas rods that meet your requirements.
We specifcally wanted two piece rods to meet the needs of island hopping.

Billy,
I played an insignificant role in the development of the TP 8680 SPSG rod (NZ102 2XXH blank). Brian of Brian's Fishing Supply in Honolulu had previously done a lot of work with another company. That company did not listen to the requirements and never got the product right. Lamiglas did listen. The first prototype was very close to requirements. The second prototype met wants/requiremen

Lamiglas makes the rods and blanks that meet your requirements.
They are:
TP 8650 SPSG rod (NZ102 2XH blank)
and
TP 8680 SPSG rod (NZ102 2XXH blank)
Rod specifications and pictures can be viewed at
Specifications for the NZ102 2XH blank can be found at
I believe the lure size is overated.
The NZ102 2XXH blank is relatively new and the ratings are not currently listed.

Thanks Bill,
I believe the service provider had scheduled about a two hour maintenance time.
It seems to be OK now.

For Lamiglas blanks, go the the following site:
Select "Blanks", then "Length and Line"
The left column will be sorted by blank length, the following column will be by line.
I haven't updated these pages for about a year, so some blanks may have been deleted and newer blanks added.
Hope it's helpful,

458. Re: A Proposal
Just for reference as to the maximum distances attainable.
For 7.5 grams (1/4 ounce) the ACA rule states a rod is not to exceed 8' 2", while the limit for the ICSF is 2.5 meters (8' 3"). Both organizations have achieved distances of 280'. The ACA casting 1/4 ounce aluminum plugs and the ICSF casting plastic plugs.
Not exactly apples to apples, but I hope the info is useful.

The Lamiglas TP8680SP is new on the market. It was designed for Ulua and is rated at 60 to 100#. The blank is NZ102 2XXH.
Here's some info on the rod.
edit: The TP8650SP shown on the link is not the standard build for the TP8650SP.

463. Re: Big Cat Blank
Lamiglas TP 8650 SP & TP 8680 SP arrived this afternoon and will be delivered to Brian's Fishing Supply tomorrow morning (Thursday) at about 9:00 AM HST (GMT -10:00).
Lamiglas has reconfigured the TP 8650 SP to match the TP 8680 SP. Fuji New Concept guides, split grips, size 16 tiptop, etc.
Mahalo to Lamiglas for a great job.

Pierre,
My first shipment of Ulua plugging rods should be arriving today or tomorrow. Made by Lamiglas. This is the first production run, so they may not be listed in the Lamiglas catalogs. We designed them for catching Ulua at Christmas Island using 80 to 100# braid. They are 8' 6" long, 2 piece, Spinning, Alconites, split grips, 60-100# rating, It is basically a TP 8650 SP on steroid

Hi Tony,
Ulua fishing comes in many flavors.
To be called an Ulua, the fish must weigh 10 lbs. The biggest caught from shore were over 150 lbs. They do grow to 200 lbs.
You can follow the links on the following page to get an idea of the equipment used. Some is obsolete.
So the question becomes, what type ulua fishing does your friend do?
Bait casting, slide bait? Light, medium or h

The longer Lamiglas blanks, that I am aware of, are fiberglas. Maybe someone could post a number for the long one piece graphite models.
A two piece graphite 15' Lamiglas blank is the GSB 180 2MH. It is rated 4 to 7 ounces and is sweet at 6 ounces.
Hope this helps,

A 15' rod may have a handle that is too large in diameter for most movable reel seats. When using a movable reel seat, you will need to consider the size of the users hands.
A second issue is the handles taper. Movable reel seats work quite well on UK style parallel handles. Not quite as well on tapered handles.

If the spinning rod is 9', 10', or longer and may at some point be used to cast braid, you will want consider mounting the reel seat in the up locking position, In situations where braid is used with more powerful rods, often casting aids (such as the Breakaway Cannon) are used. These devices are usually mounted very close to the reel seat and often on top of the forward hood.

"what guides would be best?"
Some time ago the "wide frame boat rod guides" were favored. This was the XBG series. Sizes 24 down to 16.
The boat guides were used to pass the large knots that ere required.
At a later date, people moved to Hilo (or helical) guides. These are similar to recoil guides, but much heavier. The problem with these guides is that they are prone t

Lamiglas still builds the slide bait rods that were popular in the 80's.
At the time they were known as an L6M. Today the designator is SB 160 6M.
Here's the link that lists their specifications:
They work very well with a wide Penn 4/0 and 60# mono.
Lamiglas has recently listed another blank/rod that should work quire well. It is available in one or two piece. And finished or blank

"A surf plugging rod is generally a light casting or spin rod, from 8 to 11 feet long (9 feet has traditionally been the most popular) used for casting and retrieving lures/plugs in the surf, from jetties, etc. "
Surf plugging, also known as surface plugging, is referred to as whipping in Hawaii. Some people are using up to 13' rods.

"in distance casting tournements there are several different styles of casting, the off the ground, the pendelum, teh brighton, the hatteras cast, and many others. The casters use the same rods yet most of the casts are made on different planes, or angles. If the spine made such a difference then teh casters would have a rod for each specific style of cast to get teh most of each method.&quo

While not striper fishermen, the AquaHunters should be able to address your questions.
I believe they favor a 7' spinning rod.
You will need to register prior to entering their forum.
They are supposed to be hosting a TV series starting the later part of May. It will be centered around kayak fishing.

Hi John,
"Lamiglas also makes the GSB162 1MH one piece and the GSB 180's are 2 pc. I have no experiance with these big Lami blanks!!
"
I have a little experience with the 180s. I was impressed when I first cast the GSB 150 2MH. The tip was excellent and I believed it would work very well on a longer handle of equal length to the tip. Lamiglas made the 180 for me a couple months

Hi Joseph,
The blanks that Lamiglas imports from China have a ISU prefix. The others are made in Washington.
You didn't mention which island you are on.
If you're on Oahu, you can get help from:

Roy's - orders as necessary
Brians - orders as necessary
Both Roy & Brian are waiting on newly developed rods for the Hawaii market. They were both instr

Bill,
I take it that you are asking about the tip top and first few guides.
The questions should be:
What is the heaviest lure or sinker you will be using?
What are the expected beach conditions? crowded, empty
What is the structure you expect? reef, sand
How often do you change your shock leader?
What type of shock leader knot do you use?
How powerful a caster are you?

Lamiglas also has some entry level blanks in the same range. They are light and listed as graphite, not composite.
For guides, I go with Fuji BMNAG and BLNAG. I use the BMNAG in the larger sizes and the BLNAG in the tip section. I have recently started using the American Tackle Titanium ring lock guides and find them impressive. I weighed 20 size 12 and the average weight was less than 3/4
