Ok after more comparisons I believe I was sent the wrong guide. I had ordered a single guide from two different sponsors a while back. They are labeled with the same numbers but are worlds apart. I believe the guide I ordered from Get Bit is correct, yet the one I got from Mudhole is a 6 I have never seen before. Just trying to shed light as to why I am so confused about these. I am not griping a

Ok, I only asked as I compared the height of a regular blnag 6 to the tlrvsg6 the difference was marginal. I thought the rv was supposed to be a taller guide (close to kw 10 in height). Just slightly confused, thanks for the help. Tom

Which rv is the correct one for a bait casting (bass) micro build. Is it the lrvsg6s or is it the trvsg or trvtg ? Thanks Tom

No offense taken but for me I will still pick up the caster every time!!! I fish them both with the same line and my reels are set much looser than most so for me there is no drawback. If I were fishing a shot in current I most likely not use 1/8 ounce anyhow as there will not be enough weight to put the bait in my preferred strike zone, but that is just me

Denham, This is not a blank that most would consider heavy flipping blank. I personally believe you will be very happy it. I am extremely picky in what I fish and build for my customers. I would not recommend it if I didn’t believe in it.

I completely agree, I used the Eternity 2 replacement for the 822.5 as a caster and it easily handles those weights

Denham, Point Blank does have trouble with its blank listings, this is definitely a moderate blank!! I know you don’t want to put out the money but this is in my opinion the best moderate flip blank offered currently I feel it even bests my Northfork HM flip blanks. Point Blank is a company that will stand behind its products, I wish I could say t have seen the same ( I have a customer who cannot

I haven built on the Rainshadows that were suggested but have built the Revc72mh and it will work well for what you want to do. I have fished and own the Shikari sh764 it is perfect. Get a hold of Kevin at Get Bit he will have the best first hand knowledge on the Liberty lineup.

You should look into the blank suggested. I personally fish one and consistently boat flip 6lb fish and bigger as well, 4’s and 5’s are no problem whatsoever. It has a great moderate action that is perfect for flipping. I have the Northfork 766 you spoke of. I think the point blank has more power, but yet in hand it feels lighter and is just phenomenal. Keep in mind you need to take into account

I agree with Steve!!! IMO both Bob and Steve have an extensive knowledge base and one should take heed to the advice they offer. Pay VERY close attention to what they say, you will not be disappointed. Both have helped me for over a decade now and not once have I been ill advised

Haven’t looked at or played with Loomis stuff in a great while. I have a person that wants a blank as close as he can get to the old Loomis telescopic fs904 imx. It’s specs are 7’6” heavy ( which means nothing to me honestly) 12-25 lb test 1/4-1.0 oz Any suggestions?

Preach on brother Steve!!!! Couldn’t have been said better. Some people just are unwilling to change and even when there is still proof they continue to blindly refuse.

I used a reverse pilot bit on one set and on another I used a piece of tubing that I sharpened .

Just wanted to provide a quick update. I Used a reverse pilot bit and it was wonderfully successful to remove the blank from the grip. Wear gloves and mask though... the blank splinters badly and does get slightly ground up during the process. I used a chop saw to cut down blank to a workable length . This was a split grip rod so I cut the handle into two parts before using bit. Whole proce

Drew sorry I came across as taking as offensive but generally when someone prefaces their thought with a statement such as reality check it tends to put one one edge. I do appreciate the apology though! I agree that ones time is generally one of the most important parts of this craft. I only want to salvage these grips because I do have a large amount of time in creating them. If it’s a cheap co

Drew Reality check back to ya.... I am smart enough to salvage something and make use of it later, why junk it when is is perfectly usable? These Will not go on a customers rod but I will use it. The process took about the same time it takes to ream a new one... so there is your reality check. You are welcome to do whatever you like but I will go the route of utilizing my mind for something c

Has anyone successfully removed carbon fiber grips? I only ask as I have a few sets on rods that have broken and might like to try and salvage them. My guess would be to try and boil them just as you do cork. I tried the search function but didn’t find anything Thanks Tom

Why not turn a set of grips from nylon? You could overbore to reduce weight much the same as one does with wood grips. Then simply use a couple arbors. You also have the option of a white carbon sleeved grip using material from Soller. Use permagloss for a coating that won’t yellow. Might be able to use the new CT’s epoxy but it is spendy and not the standard 1:1 we have all become accustomed to

Lance, I miss seeing both of you post along with that of Bill Stevens as well. He is greatly missed, I think very fondly of him each time I use my Castaway 874 of which he crafted a custom decal for. He was also kind enough to send a complimentary Castaway blank for a rod that I built for my commands Christmas party. I still stay in contact with the individual who won that rod and they rave abou
