That's the problem. How does a sponsor like American Tackle feel when they put up a post and see it pushed down the page in favor of an old topic that only three or four people want to continue with? I am not upset or anything but every forum that used this bump up feature went by the wayside while this one flourished. Some times it is better not to mess with success. But it will be what it will

Eventually people start tuning out when the "active stuff" is just a beating and re-beating of an already dead horse by just a few people for weeks on end.

So this topic is now six weeks old and has devolved into a discussion on advertising by the same few people (no offense intended to them) and with the new format manages to stay at the top of the page. Maybe a private messaging system could be added here so that the non rodbuilding stuff doesn't take front and center for weeks on end. Just a suggestion.

Your usual insults ignored,, I do support Alecks efforts. But as I stated before you cannot discount 20+ years of success as the most popular rod building forum in the world. The question to ask is "why" and what might any changes do to that success. It might turn out to be equally successful but in a different way and that is ok. This topic reads more like something off a chat room tha

Billy you are making my point. It is only a hot topic for a half dozen of us. Nobody else cares. And like you say nothing about this topic has anything to do with rod building.

Please read again -- "So the site performs poorly according to Ben..." My point all along is that taking the most popular and most successful site and trying to make it more like the less popular and less successful sites is not a good idea. I never said that new features or abilities were a bad thing. But to the point of this particular topic the bounce or bump up topic feature is

I won't use it. Take this as it comes but I build mostly saltwater rods and need all the wrap strength and durability I can get. So I do not even keep CP in my shop.

So the site performs poorly according to Ben and Billy says Alek bought it to bring new life to it. Why would anybody do that? Why not start a new, fresh site instead of spending money on something that is supposedly worn out and not performing well? Sorry guys but your comments do not make any sense.

I think this forum had that exact thing for the first half dozen years or something. A rod builders Directory if I remember correctly.

There are plenty of other rod building message forums. You may not know of them because most are not very active. Just do a google search and you can find a quick half dozen.

Aleks would not have bought a poorly performing site. He bought this one over all the others for a reason.

I do not post unless I think I have something to add to a topic. Some guys post everyday with their morning cup of coffee. Posting for them is something they do out of habit and that is fine but it is not something I have time for and if it does not help somebody I see no reason to do it just to hear myself talk.

If they're good at what they do they will look at unique IP hits and not just numbers from the same person. You can't fool a good advertising analytics firm with single IP traffic.

What you need to do now is just fix what you have. If you wipe the wrap down with alcohol and then do a quick light scour with scotchbrite, dust it off with a light brush and then apply another coat of epoxy you should be fine.

And that is my point..... you have only been here for two short years. All the other forums that operated the way you mention are either gone or rarely used. For those of us that have been here for twenty years we see what this forum offered that others did not and can figure out why it is still around. Many said it would not last because of the way it was set up and run. All had to eat a lot of

You could do that under the old system. You just put the URL of the person you searched into a new post. The site had all those options all along.

That's not correct. Nobody's posts ever disappeared. You could always go back and find older posts or older members with the click of a button. Kent, just how new are you to this forum??? We had a choice, now we don't. What happened to all the rod building forums that used the return to top feature? They are either gone or rarely used while this one prospered. I do not think the success of thi

That’s the point — there WAS a choice. Now there is not. In the old setup you just clicked on the box that said “follow topic” and you would be notified when a post you were interested in had been replied to and there was even a direct link you could click on that took you to that topic. No scrolling or hunting for it. If you were not interested in a topic you just did not click the box. The choi

Go to your local tackle store and tell them you would like to have or would pay a few bucks for scrap glass rod blanks that they have turned in. Most tackle shops have a lot of that junk lying around.

The sponsor list on the left has been there since 2001. Not new. But I do agree that it is the easiest way to find the manufacturer and dealer sites. Always has been. There has always been a "follow topic" option for each topic so you could always get updates even years out if somebody went back and added something new to an old topic. The new system of bouncing a topic back to the t

If you mean 3rd section as in the section 1-up from the butt section it is possible that he reached forward on the rod above the grip and pulled from there. This puts strain further up the rod where it is not supposed to be. I have watched many fly rods break when the fisherman grabbed the rod above the grip and pulled from there. The higher up the rod you reach the less power it has and will bre
