Not sure what you are asking. Didn't it come with a bed?

I know that Kantner had set up or designed blanks for an Australian firm that went by a similar name but he did not own them like he did Graphite USA. A guy bought that after Kantner died and moved it to Arizona? After that failed I did not keep up with the firm much more until it became United Composites. I've used a bit of their stuff and found it similar in quality to the original blanks.

It doesn't seem to matter. Just take whatever guide you are using in the #2 position and duplicate it in the #3 position and then carry on from there.

I think United Composites was originally Graphite USA? I know they were sold and moved a couple times but they always had a great reputation for durability. If Randy Penny is the guy from the old Seeker I would think that United Composite is in good hands and worth a try.

Some of us were discussing the Oddball guide layout last week or so and I had mentioned I was going to try it with some surf spinning rods. I did and got the same result. About 10% more distance.

Look at the track or bed or whatever you want to call it. If they are the same then the same carriage should work. If the track is different then it probably will not.

2-power for the minimum. A 3-power would not be too much. A 1-power is probably going to disappoint you for your purposes.

Calstar has made some really good stuff over the years. Seeker did too but I don't think they build their own stuff anymore. If Calstar is still building their own blanks in-house I'd be willing to take a risk on them as they have been doing this for a long, long time. Always had a good reputation and I have not heard anything different even in these COVID years.

It will still crack CP or no CP. Depends on the amount of flex in the rod and the guide type mostly. Feathering the ends of the feet very fine will help some but that's about it.

OK here is what you want to do to stop such cracking. BEFORE you apply epoxy you should put on a coat or two of Permagloss. Let that dry for a few days and then epoxy as normal. Toughest wraps you can make and you will not get any cracking on any rod.

Standard DPS or similar. 16 for the medium sized fly rods and either a 17 or an 18 if you need it for an unusually large foot reel.

Nothing but the Fuji seats for me on any fly rod. Lots of good suggestions here. Stick with a board sponsor and you cannot go wrong.

I began noticing that the internals of these various priced reels were the same when I started ordering parts for various reels sold by the same company. Most of the difference is in the outer cosmetics not the actual gears and guts. Not all companies maybe but a lot of them.

I did get around to trying the weird guide system in the last issue of the magazine. It works really well. I measured a bit and seems like it is about 10% better than anything else I have used. Strange stuff but seems to work at least on the outfits I mocked up. Need to try it on some surf spinning rods and see what happens there.

I clean and service a lot of reels and I have learned that most reels are made by the same one or two companies. Some are spec models they make to a firm's request while other times it is really only the exterior cosmetics that are changed while the internals are identical. I won't spend over $100 on a reel these days. The higher priced ones just are not any better and usually the same as the $10

This is the problem with forums where posts pop up to the top anytime a response is made. It turns into a chat room style place where a half dozen people just chat or argue back and forth and the people who want quality information interaction end up going elsewhere. It has ruined more than one forum and it will ruin this one. You have 20+ years of proof that this forum worked. Why hand it over t

Tom--- rod blank deflection is in the column next to rod blank volume and next to that is rod blank movement. Seriously, Phil is just making up stuff now. Stuff for which there is no answer because there is no way to define or measure such silly terms. He's been cornered and is unable to define any of the dynamic measurements he talks about.

I want to hear from Phil --- if the static length of a rod is seven feet long, what is its dynamic length and how do I measure it? If the static weight of a rod is one and one half ounce, what is its dynamic weight and how do I measure that? If the rod's static action is fast, what is it's dynamic action and how do I measure that? And if the rod's deadlift strength is capable of 20lbs what can it

It might help sometimes to use the right terms to help with the type rods involved. Not just on this post but others in the future. Casting and spinning rods do not have "stripping" guides. You do not strip line on those type rods. You cast from the reel. The first guide from the reel on any casting or spinning rod is simply a "butt" guide. Now the first guide from the reel on

Guides wraps have always been strong enough to do what they do even a century before epoxy was invented. And nylon fibers do not absorb epoxy. Expoy or CP just fills in the tiny areas between the fibers. You can nick or cut one end of an epoxied wrap and just pull and unravel the thread right out of the epoxy. I do it all the the time when I replace damaged guides. I will give that the epoxy make

Guides do not shift or slip due to any lack of wrap strength. Even A thread makes a strong as you know what wrap. I have never seen any guide rip through a wrap of even size A. No need for more strength of any sort of composite for strength but you do have to make sure the thread doesn't get wet and that you have something to keep the guides from shifting or slipping. You can eliminate most shift

Joseph, Here is one even better if you are worried about really heavy duty salt and offshore rods. Ditch the epoxy. Use one wrap of size D or two if it makes you feel better, but instead of epoxy coat with Permagloss. I use as many as ten coats on these rods. Permagloss is water thin so even with ten coats you will not get the thickness of epoxy but its like putting concrete on your wraps. The st

Look at the names that are responding. The same few people. The idea that dozens and dozens of others are hanging on each new response and running to read the latest come-back is doubtful. It has become a chat room for just a few guys, that's all. I know what you mean about the soulful @#$%& but sometimes the best way to end that is just to not respond.
