I have around 10 builds on MHX blanks and all perform nicely! Big bang for the buck and a huge selection to choose from. As to the Revelation blanks, I have 2 in the shop waiting to be built for myself. I seems I just can't get the time to get them started!! They are next!!

93. Re: Fuji Guides
Mike
My choice of Fuji guides for a light panfish spinning rod would be the "Y" type for the reduction guides, and the "L" type for the running guides. I would top the rod with a "F" or "LG" type of tip top. I have used the alconite rings and and have not had a single problem with them. I have built approximately 25 of my 45 rod builds using these

If you had access to a 12 volt dc or 24volt dc motor with a speed control this could be easily done with any security system low voltage power supply / battery charger. The power supply would provide constant dc voltage available to the motor with a low voltage transformer plugged into a 120 volt ac outlet. When the 120 volt ac power is interrupted the power supply would automatically switc

I rub an old birthday candle up and down on my solid mandrel to coat it (not threaded rod). I have not had any problems with the cork / glue wanting to stick to it.

A 100ma power supply will not power a 250-1000ma motor period! You will burn up stuff. You need a power supply with at very least a 1a (not ma) current supply rating.

Eliminate the "flash it with a torch" step! That possibly could kick start and speed up the curing of the finish. I also use 2 batches of finish on the first coat - 1 for the guides and 1 for the butt wrap area. I usually can mix 1 batch for the whole rod for 2nd (and the 3rd if necessary) coat. I carefuly measure 1.5cc of each part for each batch with syringes and mix well wit

I also have put snakeskin inlays on several rods (skins not from Mudhole) and glued them down with cp. Then I top coated the skin inlays with 2 coats of cp to force out any air bubbles. Better to get rid of the air trapped in the skin with the cp than deal with them in a semi cured coat of finish. (PS all of them look great !)

I think the reason that your finish is getting thick more quickly that you want it to is that you may be overheating it with the hot water. When you warm the finish components before mixing, you are speeding the setting of the finish and therefore shortening the pot life. I have found that out by experience! Now before mixing my finish i warm both components by only holding them in my h

I see in the Pacific Bay catalog a "GCP" series reel seat that looks exactly like the ATC Aero seats (all size 16).

For what it's worth - I have only built spinning rods on 5 or 6 of the Pac Bay Tradition (original) & Tradition II spin jig blanks. These rods were built for river smallmouth bass and Canadian walleye fishing. I think they make a fine rod blank / rod for those purposes, and I would have no hesitation to use them again. Good bang for the buck!

I do the same process as Robert (above). For longer grips you can make up 2 / 3 / 4 / ? shorter sections and then glue the sections together on the blank after they are reamed to fit the blank.

I purchased a "c" series lathe chuck from Penn State Industries. It was on sale at a very nice price at the time, and also came with a couple add-ons. I also purchased accessory jaws and a chuck adapter that was labeled "Shopsmith". I am not familiar with the Shopsmith lathe but understand that it has a 5/8" spindle shaft size. My rod lathe also has a 5/8" shaf

I am able buy older virtually brand new rods at neighborhood yard sales for 5 bucks. You can buy beat up rods 1 or 2 for a buck! Good for rod repairs / test rods.

I ream all of my EVA grips and stop reaming when the grip stop a little short (3-4") of sliding in to its final installation point, If the grip can pushed into position with a little force applied it's perfect in my opinion. Move it back up the blank, butter up the blank with adhesive, and push it back into place over the glue. If your reamed grip slides past the installation spot, I

You also could use a short tip section of an old rod or rod blank with a tip-top installed.

Same situation as Mark. I ordered a set of spinning guides for a rod but not had the time to wrap them onto a blank as of yet. I ordered the gunsmoke finished frames and they look great, and the rings are very thin. Hopefully the thin rings will hold up well.

Rod balance also will be affected by rod blank length and also by the number and type of guides that are being used. There is really no set measurements that will be correct for all handle mount / reel seat situations. All can you do is mock up a handle / reel seat setup with a close choice for the reel type and and get it as close as you reasonably can.

112. new year resolution
This will be my new year resolution for the new year..........to not again send an order for blanks and components 2 weeks before Thanksgiving! It stings a little to see that a week after your order arrives at your doorstop that most of the items you have ordered have been placed on sale at 35% to 50% discount, and shipping costs have waived. In the new year if I find myself needing to place a or

Mudhole offers 2 different "matte" rod finishes, both Seymo products. I have purchased one of each type, but have not coated any wraps with either as of yet, so I can not offer any "product reviews". Possibly a call Mudhole would shed some light!

I use 2 four foot LED shop light fixtures (4000 lumens each) mounted directly over my wrapping lathe. They are about approximately 2.5 to 3 feet above the lathe bedway. I am very happy with this setup. Lots of bright light! Before I had 2 flourescent fixtures that were not quite as bright, and a pain in the backside to keep working.

The mention of 40 builds so far is over a period of 14-15 years. No big production shop, just a hobby builder. I have tried a lot of different finishes at one time or another and have settled in on Threadmaster lite as my go to finish. Not because I think it's any better than the others, I have just got used to it's handling properties and I seem to "get away with" with some &

Morris
I typically apply 2 to 3 coats of lite build finish on every rod I build (I'm up to about 40 rods now). You should be able to apply a second (3rd etc.) within 2 to 3 days of the first coat without any further prep of the finish surface, and maybe even a little longer. I usually wait about 24 hours between coats.
