As an Alaskan and a rod builder, I would choose the Forecast. They are 100% bombproof in my experience. I have beatn my around the boat, spilled acetone on them, (Long story.) dropped them on the rocks, high sticked them, dropped them ont he rocks probably where you will be fishing....and they have held up with no breakage. And, even if you have to use the the in which it was inten

Just curious, what position do you orient the guides to the "spine" not spline? Do you notice any tangible or absolute difference?
Thanks Ed,

I gotta chim in here...
1. If it feel light and crisp to "me".
2. If it will enable me to punch a complete flyline and about 20' of backing...
3. Catches fish....
4. Oh, and doesn't break on the first hard hook set....(Knock on wood; I have only broken 2 rods in my entire life. I think I just jinxed myself..)

It's hard to argue your point and thanks for illustrating it well. I do agree, it is a personal choice and everone's situation will be different.
But for the small amount of $$ that you pay, I would think that it could be of some benefit; especially when needed. Personnaly, I believe the probability of being sued is slim to none at best.
But...you convinced me to get it if I reope

You're welcome Joe. But why are you so atimate on a 12'er? The difference of 6" is very negelegible IMHO....Just curious my friend..

Ok...I understand your rational Jim and Alex. And sure the extra layer there "can't" hurt; understood too. But really, do you, or any other folks in here KNOW of any custom rod builder being sued, and not "I herd" of a guy being sued?
JIM: If you don't mind, what does your insurance policy cover? Just curious.

I never had it...I have no idea what you would insure to begin with. Regardless of if you had insurance or not, folks could sue you; insurance isn't going to stop them from suing.
Also, what what are the reasonable scenarios that would end up in a trial? I can't think of any. Sure we could all dream up a bunch, but realistically there are probably very very few cases.

If any of you folks were ever in doubt about the Maderia Poly Neon threads, don't be! This thread is fantastic to work with, has great color, and the quantity you get on a spool is great!
Just thought I would throw that out to all of you...
Happy wrapping!

JANNS FLEXLITES...Pretty much the only way I fish is with a Cp...These guides are great! Also, Fuji Alconite low profile, single foots are great too.
Another word of advice is to use the FUJI New Concept for guide sizing...It makes a HUGE difference campared to the old traditional float rod guides hands down!

Will not any distance what-so-ever, and more than likely decrease distance. The rod will feel like a noodle compared to a rod with 9 guides. Gary Loomis once told me, "The more things you add to the rod=more weight. More weight = less performance".
I concur...

The double foot guides have a "slight" larger contact path. However, an increased contact patch equals a larger coefficient of friction, resulting in a shortend fly line life.

Uhh...us men in Alaska (You tourists may though..) don't fish pink wrapped rods, but let me ask my wife and her friends. Just kidding... But if i see you up here with a pink wrapped rod, I will come on over rand say hello.
All seriousness now; the combo you suggested does not sound all that bright and wild to me. I would use the Madera poly neon colors with CP and come up with a good combo

48. Re: spey rod
I know the Great Lakes Steelies well and the 13' 7 would be my choice; that way it would be a great rod for Browns, and Coho's as well. However, to use it wade fishing on the beaches when the wind comes up, can and will be a nightmare due to the length of the rod. When/if the wind comes up, you be able to cast much further and with more efficiency with a shorter rod than a spey rod....

49. Re: spey rod
What size of Steelies do you plan to target? What size of rivers do you fish? And what type of lines do you plan on fishing with this spey rod? And I have to ask, why would you use a spey rod for salt water fishing and in what type of application?
Lots of questions..
And no, a 7 wt spey rod is not too heavy for certain applications as well as a 6 wt is not to hlight for certain applicati

However introduce the Ugly Stick into the mix and they are stronger and more durable in terms of hoop strenght and impact resistant to anything I know short of a solid piece of fiberglass. And yes, I know they are heavy and aren't a joy to fish with...unless you have arms and deltoids like a 20 year inmate.

TOM NAIR:
Ensure you use 5 full turns of Scotch Super 88 and not the 33. I have used this method for nearly 30 years and it works quite well; no reason for all that fancy thread wrap. And, Scotch makes all different colors now to appeal to all of the color challenged folks.
Get creative too; I do. Take several different colors for that fresh off the dimestore look.
