It's always a good idea to have a couple of extra running guides on hand when you do the static distribution testing. I'm not familiar w/ that Daiwa...if it's comparable in size to a Shimano 4000, I'd say a #25 stripper is plenty, if guide height is good. You ought to also run the #'s using the Fuji KR system.

I haven't seen any Batson steelhead blanks rated for 3/4 - 3oz. Do you have a link?

Here's a birch set that I did, w/ 1 coat of TruOil rubbed in. Almost a matte finish.

I like these rubber butt plugs in the 3/8th. Pretty sure that the first grips I bought from Riley Rods had these.

Tough business to be successful at, not to discourage you! I wonder what ever happened to Shikari's equipment, even after Advanced Tubular Composites bought them out, and later folded?

I like to use the Fuji folding hook keeps, and always put em on the bottom, an inch or 2 in front of the seat or foregrip, casting or spinning.

I haven't used the "B" Prowrap yet. I got a small spool of it in my last order, but it wasn't the shade# I ordered. It does appear to be similar in size to the Gudebrod 'B". I especially like "B" for the wrap thread in weaves, tho I've wrapped guides w/ it, too. I'm glad they added it to their thread selection!

If your gonna turn the cork on the blank, just use the epoxy glue and clamp it good after glue up. The glue lines will be minimal if clamped. I do use the polyurethane on some things that are hard to bond to, but it's messy.

I'll add to what Ellis said. Grizzly used to have their own 1/2" corded drill that was a real workhorse, and fit the collar perfectly. They discontinued it several yrs ago, and I picked up a second one when they were closing them out. Been using the second one for 3 or 4 yrs. I did buy the Dewalt 1/2" that they show, as backup. It doesn't fit the collar as well, and required some grindi

Does anyone have a good link to where I might see the Boomerang Retr. Device demo'd? Wasn't able to make the show this year.

Here's what Jim Ising said last month about how he personally does it... I don't use the Forhan on the KTAGs, but do 5 blocking wraps in front of the guides, taking advantage of the "wicking window" (Fuji's term) to better encase the guides with finish. Haven't done any pullout tests, tho.

I wear expensive scopes for my day job, but prefer the inexpensive headstrap magnifyers for rodbuilding...HF used to have #95890...they offer a much larger field of view than the optivisors, etc., and come w/ several lenses. Maybe $15, but you'll have to search the sites to find them now.

I don't see ya using more than 6 runners, but it always pays to have extras to play w/ the static setup.

If I'm doing alot of threadwork in the split between rear grips, I do the threadwork and 1 coat of finish first. Then install the butt piece from the butt., the other from the tip. I use a section of a 3pc blank shoved into the working blank to support it and give room for the left loom off the working blank.

I don't get the $230 shipping each way. Built a couple of Calstar GF700L a few yrs ago and took to CRica for the same targets, as checked baggage in a rodtube.. Got some grief from the CRican in country airline, but in the end, no problemo, and no upcharge..

I don't think it matters, the length of the rod. Some of us on the gulf coast have been using the following w/ nice results, w/ a 2500/3000 Shimano: 16H at 17-18" from the reel lip extended out, 5.5H at ~25 1/2", and a KB4 at ~32 1/2". Runners are are determined w/ static testing. You've got the guides, just tape em up and do some test casting.

May be a missprint on the AllStar site...titanium frame w/ hard zirconia inserts sounds more like it if they're PacBay's. Alot of the Academys down here will/or used to exchange the rod, since AllStar is sold exclusively through them. Maybe post a closeup pic of the guides
