Matt - the FG is a great knot but definitely takes more time/effort to tie. For me I generally would tie the long leader for a day on Lake Erie where you constantly have to re-tie because of zebra mussels, rocks, etc. With alot of practice I'm sure it becomes relatively quick to re-tie while out on the boat but I'm not that fast with it as of yet so if I had an issue and had to re-tie I would p

Thanks for checking Norm. I've got the gold/black on order so no worries. Shipping is as much as the part but I'm committed at this point :) Looking forward to 1st Expo and hopefully seeing/meeting some of the faces behind the names of many of the helpful people that are on this forum. Thanks again!

Thanks Norm for the response. I thought I had ordered the NFC 1K soft touch grips but they are the 3K. So, going to give the Fuji perfect fit sleeve, base ring, and cap ring a go. Will save the AmTac Sleeve for a future build. Once I get everything together will post another picture so that any others who might be wondering will know what finished product looks like. Thanks.

Without the insert the ID of the ATC Carbon (outer) Sleeve is 22.8mm. I need some kind of winding check that I can securely fasten to sleeve that isn't tight on blank and still allows me to connect sleeve to the Hidden Thread nut...

I am building a spinning rod with Fuji VSS reel seat and Sk2 hidden thread nut. Have the NFC Carbon grips. Read somewhere that the ATC Matte fore grip sleeve matches the NFC grips nicely and they are a great match. My problem is my blank OD is 13.6mm and the inner sleeve ID Is 18.7mm. I need to find something that will take up the 5mm but still allow the hidden thread nut to turn (so no rod

Anybody built on the Cashion blanks now being offered thru Mudhole. Look intriguing. Particualrly interested in the Crankbait rods but interested if anyone has any CCS data and/or experience with these blanks. Ridges cause issue with wrapping?

@ Logan - I added your two blanks to the spreadsheet list @ American Tackle - Kevin Landers, @MHX, @Hydra, @NFC, @Batson/Raindshadow I'd love to see more Blanks data and will happily add them to this list. I'm relatively new into rod building and my current project is replacing out all my factory rods. I've measured CCS data on all my blanks and will first goto this list to find measuremen

Hi all - few more rods have been added to the spreadsheet at I reached out to Tom Kirkman and he Ok'd adding the St Croix rods that were provided in Rodmaker Magazine. The rods included the following: -SC4-63MLXF -SC4-66MLF -SC4-68MLF -SC4-70MLF -SC4-70MF -SC4-70MHF Also I created a YouTube video to demonstrate how to Sort/Filter blanks directly on the google spreadsheet on your bro

Thanks Norm Miller for the great explanation on the butt section and the reaming nuances of Point Blanks and other blanks. Makes perfect sense. I have learned tons from you and the many other builders on this site.

I haven't laid eyes on the point blank but will take a few measurements where I want to place grip/seat. If very little taper then sounds like I'd be better off making a custom reamer with a straight dowel slightly smaller diameter than blank and then glueing some sandpaper onto it. Is that what you mean?

I added these additional blanks to the database/spreadsheet. I assume you are talking about the CRB color series correct? These blanks: Also, note that you do not have to export spreadsheet to be able to do sorting/filtering.

I agree with @Les statement and would hit the like if I could, "The point was, to me, to try and take a subjective term and turn it into numbers that can be useful to rod builders." I appreciate everyone's candor and I don't see this as trying to prove one side right and one side wrong. I see this as an attempt to better categorize and/or quantify sensitivity and any tests that correl

Should have put this in original post but the gentleman is looking for, in his words, "a TRULY non-noodle fast action rod". For the blanks that I suggested and/or have been mentioned on this thread does anyone have the CCS numbers? Or with firsthand build experience any of those that fall into the, "noodle, slower action" category in your opinion. I realize noodle and fast

Been following this thread for the duration with quite a bit of interest. Being a new builder didn't feel qualified enough to weigh in. But, planning on going to Expo and would definitely be interested in sitting in on the session that is getting into this. I appreciate all the info shared on this thread and hope that this helps to move closer to the elusive means to quantify sensitivity.

Any suggestions for a short, tight quarters BFS Blank for Stream Smallies? Would be used to throw light jigs/tubes, small weightless plastics, and maybe some inline spinners. Not for me but was on a different forum and someone was asking. Doing some initial research I landed on the below. Threw in the 6'-6" pointblank just because have heard lots of good review and possibly could be shor

Hello all - I have spent a good bit of time over last few weeks compiling info from this thread into a spreadsheet. With the info posted on this thread we now have 930 records. Most of the time spent going thru this info was spent adding in lengths of the different rods/blanks so that you could sort/filter by rod length. With different manufacturers coding their model names differently it took

I'm relatively new to building as well. Below thread had some pretty good feedback from several on the site here about how they would typically price a custom built rod. Regarding the term "Value" it may be a bit more subjective. As an example someone may value more highly very intricate thread work and other decorative features and therefore may be willing to pay a bit more to
