93. Icing
Time to switch to mono. I was out catching moonlight walleyes and my rod started making noise when casting, and my distance went to heck. Turned on the headlamp and all the guides were icing. That's a #6 Minima 4 top and 4mm Minima 4 runners. Got back in the truck and the thermometer said 29 deg F. No wonder I was cold!

The dental bands are so fast and easy. I've been using them for 10+ years. I got mine online somewhere. Mud Hole carries them now.

I always use a hair dryer and a Popsicle stick and my thumbnail to remove guide wrap remains. Sometimes the blank finish needs to be removed if you are relocating the guide train, or if the finish is damaged. In that case I use Citrus Strip to take it down to bare graphite. I also use the Popsicle stick for help with that. Sometimes it takes two applications. Many top of the line blanks are

Mike - Take a look here:
I've sanded a lot of blanks. I have a furnace filter on a box fan that I place behind my power wrapper. I start with 80 or 100 grit for removing material fast, then go to 220 for most shaping, then drop to 320, 400, and finally 600. I wear a dust mask.
I've also done a few graphite blanks but I wet sand those with 220, 320 & 400.

Gossamer or Naples white silk. Two-part epoxy, first coat thinned, second coat uncut. Do test wraps to learn the process.

I have thinned Threadmaster Lite many times with DNA when using white thread and going for a "threadless" look. It's a neat trick on the fluorescent tip of an ice rod. After one very light coat has cured, I recoat with a normal mix. I'm not sure what devastating effects it could cause, but I'm guessing that the manufacturers don't recommend it because they are concerned about you hav

Roger pretty much nailed it. With a softer "finesse" noodle that flexes all the way to handle you will want to use enough guides to protect the blank in case of a big fish. With a "power" noodle that has a stiff butt and mid-section you may be able to put the butt guide out a bit further. Another way to reduce the annoying "roll, jerk, roll, jerk action as you reel in

114. Happy solution
I had to build a new ultralight panfish ice rod because my last one was in 3 pieces after we moved to our new house. I went shopping for hard cases but just didn't want to spend the money.
I was looking around in the shop for a way to reinforce my soft case when I spotted a piece of Walmart pool noodle left over after I made up a bunch of walleye spinner rigs. Just for the heck of it I tried

Change seats or buy a lathe and turn your own. I think those seats were born for JDM bass rods.

Jon - I have built 2 rods on the HM blanks. The first was my personal shakey head/jigworm rod. I love it! Very crisp and sensitive.
Another was for a customer and he loved his.
