Corks a bit lighter than the foam. You can get away from the dirty cork problem by applying a finish to the cork. I use Spar Urethane. If I don't add a fore grip, I use an epoxy ramp to finish off the front of the seat.

Thanks Bill. I've thought of that option also. Would be a bit easier and less time consuming. Just thought I'd try my hand at the ferrule thing. I figured I'd learn something no matter how it turn out...

Hi Bill. It's one of my GLoomis rods and it broke pretty clean, no splinters or real jagged edges, about halfway up. I've since replaced it, but thought I'd give the ferrule thing a try.

Hey guys, I'm looking for any information on making a ferrule. I'm wanting to try my hand at converting a 1 piece rod into a 2 piece. Thanks in advance...

Not only for the balance issue, but if the rod is going to spend time in a rod holder while fishing, then I'm not a fan of split grips on heavier rods.

Check your thread tension. You need to have a constent tension during your wrap. Also make sure your not so tight your actually stretching the thread.

I've got um with Haplon, EVA, and UNi-Butts. For my money... UNI-Butts all the way. If not, at least a slick butt.

Seen snake skin... but never fish. I'd say give it a try. That's the only way you'll know for sure.

Was aware of Billy's connection with Visual Wrap and Doc's with Pic to Weave, but was unaware of anyone else's. I do agree with your Bottom Line statement... that's how I ended up with the one I picked.

I'm sure, based on the VisualWrap program, VisualWeave is also a great product. Have never used it, but do use Owens Pic to Weave. It's a great program as well. You load any pic you want to weave, color it to suit your needs and create a left list, layer list (by color) and thread count. If you wish, you can even print the pattern and use the pattern to create your weave. What I really like abou

That's just a bit larger than 3/32. Maybe if you were using Rod Bond.

John, until you get a chance to answer some of Doc's questions, check out the Forecast series blanks. For the price, they are hard to beat.

Colors boil down to two choices. You either complement a color or contrast it. Go to a hobby shop and get a color wheel. It will help greatly in choosing colors.

Add a uni-butt and you've got at least a 8' rod.

Jerry under the LIBRARY above read the Surface Preperation (how to) by Ralph O Quinn. It will tell you all you need to know.

That sort of proves his point.... I do it because it makes me feel better, not because there is any scientific proof. Duane, I think what Tom is trying to say is, Wrap some guides on that sucker, thead the line though the guides, then have your cat hang from it. No matter where the spine is, the guides are going to want to go to the bottom. JM .02

The more options you give them, the less they'll be able to make a decision. I ask about their favorite color or the main color they would like, then take it from there myself.

Hey Bill, one rule I use on which side to spiral is if the reel is a level wind, I spiral it as Tom says on the side of the handle. If its a free spool ree;, then the spiral goes to the opposite side of the handle to aid in respooling the line.
