541. Re: Coloring Epoxy
Possibly, a flat black, but I think the finish will still give it some shine.

Sean,
I think Mark hit the nail on the head in his last paragraph, concerning the craft/art of rod building. While you can most certainly revel in all the scientific aspects of what makes a particular rod act or react in the ways it does, and knowledge is a powerful thing, you really don't have to fully concern yourself with them in order to build a top notch rod.
For my projects, I try and

546. Re: FOR PUTTER
Have tried it, and even though it works, I've found it not to be the best method.
If you decide to use acrylics I found that you had to thin them prior to applying and then let them dry completely. Once dry, coat with CP prior to applying finish. I would also suggest you practice on a piece of scrap prior to actually signing your project. The good thing about acrylics is, if you mess up, a da

Hadn't thought about a coat of permagloss Bill. I've generally used a coat of CP. Thanks for the tip!

Hello Daniel,
Rather you mark the inside or the outside is really irrelevent. Many on this site position their guides in relation to the spine for different reasons and some disregard the spine entirely, electing to set their guides in relation to the straightness of the blank.
A rule I use most times is... casting rod mark the outside... spinning mark the inside.

One price if I do it. One price if customer watches, and another if he helps LOL!
Reminds me of my smithing days. Some guy brings in a gun completely disassembled, with the parts in a box and tells me he was just going to clean it and couldn't get it back together! Even the trigger assembly was completely taken apart!
But on the bright side Noel, once you complete a job on a mess like that.

Jim,
Tom has given you invaluable information. With each rod, I give out a brochure with do's and don'ts of proper rod handling techniques(which I took from Tom's article in Rod Maker). Along with the brochure, I also have a written guarantee explaining what is covered and what is not.
Has saved some hard feelings in the past!

561. 7' popping (green)
Hello everyone. I am looking for a 7' green popping rod. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?
Normally, I would spend time doing my own research, but I don't have the time this go round.
As always, thanks in advance!

Frank,
I've done it a number of ways. Another is to use a thread color, such as on a guide wrap as your base color and apply a clear base coat.
As Mike has suggested, experment on scrap until you get the look you want.

Charles,
So far, I've only used the metalic Testors paints. Let the pigments settle and drain off the solvents.
Have not seen any difference between the finishes of the tinted and untinted cures. The tinted permagloss does seem to take a little longer to setup and dry than the untinted.

I have also tinted Permagloss and applied to change up a reel seat. Has held up fine so far.
