151. Re: forhan loops
The Forhan lock wraps come up on an almost monthly basis. Most of the time it is newer builders asking about the benefits or people debating their usefulness.
edit: Quick search shows it was talked about 8 weeks ago in a thread based around single foot fly guides.

Peter , Norman, and Joe,
Thank you for the insight. I can understand both sides of it now more clearly. I am understanding there is a preference of reel type, and after watching the Japanese use, the control side. I can see where flipping a Ned rig and controlling water entry could be beneficial in tight quartered pressured situations for example. With a spinning rod it is much harder to get t

Spencer,
Isn't the point of BFS to present the same thing you would on your spinning outfit? A 1/16th oz Ned rig is not going to be any different under water on a spinning vs casting for example.

154. Advantages of BFS?
I did not want to derail the existing BFS post but am curious about BFS. I don't want to write it off as a gimmick just yet. Though here are my thoughts:
1. What problem is it solving? You can already throw finesse tackle on spinning rods. Spinning reels have good drags (if that is how you choose to fight fish) that compare to casters.
2. Mechanically it limits your casting distance due to

My own search I have found a MB782 IMX remaster. Search for blank MB 664-1 (HM) in "Classics" section of NFC site. It is close. NFC themselves might get you closer. If this is the closest I could get, I would buy it and cut 3" from the butt. Build and compare the two side by side.
The MB 664-1 (SM) is the standard MB782 remaster.

I would imagine that if you call NFC and ask them they will have the answer you are looking for. It is not strongly advertised, but a lot of the G-Loomis tapers and such are "reimagined" in their line up of blanks. For example the MB 706-1 (HM) is listed as a GLX 2 remastered.
Unfortunately their site/catalogue makes you work for this information sometimes. While they have come a lo

Fred,
Buying an affordable jewelers magnifying headset with a light helps me tremendously. I have good eyesight and still use it when wrapping and finishing. I found a pair for around $20 that has a light and four different lenses.

Kind of hard to explain but here goes.
On the tag that is away from the main wrap I hold my razor perpendicular to the rod and snug against the trim. I then pull tag up while holding the razor edge against the trim and make sure it is not touching the blank but is as close as possible. It cuts it flush with the trim band.
On the side touching the main wrap I cut the tag end the same as I w

Glow in the dark thread?
I have used it for rod tips on night fishing rods.
Meaning to say finish did not stop it from glowing.

I applied the epoxy the same way I would to mate the grip to the seat normally. I put a coat inside the grip and a coat on the outside of the seat. With the epoxy being colored all I had to do was clean the excess. To do that I used

If your wallet is already empty from buying tackle then it can't be empty from buying shoes.

Compared to others I am still an infant on this forum. This forum is one I will never leave. As a millennial I have somehow manage to stay off all social media. This is the closest I will ever get and I am blessed to call myself a part of this great community. Thank you Tom for your vision, passion, and hard work to make a place like this a possibility.

Phil,
That is like saying advertising is behind specific race cars and that credit goes to Madison Avenue for delineating between NASCAR and F1. In the same way a race car is circuit specific, rods are TASK specific. Perhaps Madison Ave is to blame for the different weight fly rods too? Do you only own one rod? Would that one rod work in a mountain stream in the Olympic Peninsula for rainbow tro

That is why my first question is, "What species."
Saltwater candlestick jig, crappie jig, flippin jig, casting jig, finesse jig, swim jig... All jigs but completely different lures.

I like to play devils advocate and debate (responsibly) to be a catalyst to ernest discussion. You can find it a great exercise in critical thinking. Sometimes the only thing you exercise is futility. But you have to try. Right?

2 liter bottle, line, lure. All you need to have fun. Not going to maximize performance though.
Honestly try it for fun. Wrap line around the bittle while you hold it from the cap. Tie on a worm. Fling it out and it unwraps like a spinning spool. To reel simply rotate the bottle.

Phil E,
Species specific is too broad. You need to add techniques and presentations to that. All "medium heavy" rods are not the same or equal. Actions often are more indicative of performance as to what lure they can effectively cast/work in a freshwater application. To make a species specific rod that is also technique specific you must answer many questions. The main questions are a

I attempted single line and found issues for my load tests.
I use o-rings on all my guides for all my builds. No tape. I do not have a mechanical setup for holding the rod so all of my static loads are done by hand.
With single line if the rod rotates even the slightest, the guides will rotate. If they have rotated even the slightest and you straighten the rod the line can touch blank. Th

Thank you. I am really enjoying working with something different. I will make a post to show the build when done as a thank you to the group here for all the tutelage. Everyone of the fly guys old posts have helped me a lot in deciding what to do with this build.

I am building an Iconoglass 8' 5# with a soft touch full wells and the American Tackle Infinity seat. Using this combination the trim piece that comes with the grip does not fit with the seat. So I hand fit the grip to the seat and this was the result.
With the foam showing I had to problem solve. I figured the solution was worth a share.
First I took my Testors black pigment and coated

I was an industrial electrician and now engineer. I have picked up some tendencies. My wall plates for receptacles and switches all have the flathead screws facing the same way. Attention to detail is a blessing and a curse.

I always start and end mine opposite the anglers eye on the bottom of the rod. Once you get better it won't matter as much because it will be harder to detect where they start and end. You will start and finish much cleaner once you figure out the best way for you to do it.
One place it does matter a lot to me is when you drop or add thread for decorative rings. It is a personal pet peeve of m
