I'm trying to imagine 10,000 "walleye" rods sent to Florida retailers. Another issue is not just species specific labeling on rods, but also technique specific labels also appear on rods. I have a rod that says "crankbait" rod, but for me it is an awesome swimbait rod. I never use it for crankbaits. So while such labels can help promote sales, it can also hurt sales.

Little more than a sales gimmick. There is nothing more irritating than to have a rod in my hands fishing for bass and see some label on it for trout or salmon or walleye. Seriously? Time to remove it! No such thing as a species specific rod. Next?

Fuji KR. SIC guides are more brittle and easier to break. A simple drop or twist of guide frame can do them in. ADDED: Some real world search info found on numerous forums about how brittle SIC guides are. SiC Guides Breaking Easily??????? I've got some ugly sticks that i've literally run over and the rings stay put. These crack/break seem to break waaaaaaay too easily. to

You are exactly right! However, the recession is not upcoming. We're in it according to the experts. And Phil when I cast, I am using that unloading rod spring effect to NOT push the lure out there or push a rope as you say, but my rod tip is pulling the lure at a stronger, faster rate than softer rods, so yes rod construction can help casting to go further as we push deeper into the rod's spring loading and unloading effect. My rod tip is PULLING the lure until release so there is no pushing as

Well there is a way for us to "look" at it without empirical data of any value as of yet... The higher the audible resonant frequency, the easier the rod blank can transmit vibrations from input at tip to output at handle. So higher frequencies are believed to make a rod more sensitive, but there are other factors involved such as size, density, shape, weight, construction, and mater

You're right we should use the correct scaling and that is hertz. It makes the most sense to me. And it is the common standard and nearly all electronic equipment made for measuring frequencies and controlling frequencies is all done in hertz only and this is how it should be in custom rod building in my ever so humble opinion. CPM should be done away with and just use hertz as everyone else in t

It can also be measured like a spring for power. Deadlift is misleading to me. I can have an ultralight rod and a MH both lift a similar load, but one rod has more "power" in the return of a spring loaded effect released and the rods will have different results in that type of power test. So power can also be measured by how much "pull" a rod returning to rest can exert. This

I worked at a rod and reel repair shop for years and went through this one a lot using a number of various glues. What I learned to look for over the years was to look for softer glue sticks to the touch that were also low temp glues. Those that were rubbery and bend easily at room temp seemed to hold better than hard glue sticks that once hardened up could crack away more easily like epoxy c

To me it is. This is why I have chosen unpainted blanks for years. I do not want any coatings weighing my blanks down and reducing sensitivity which yes is noticeably different and not as crisp of a response. Painted blanks may look pretty, but not for me if I can help it. If you had 2 identical blanks, one painted and one not painted, I'd think you could tell the difference. I believe this di

Call old bass pro John Bitter. Today in 2022 he is still fishing in tournaments using those old Lew's reels. I give him the ones I come across. I used to work for a rod and reel repair shop and worked on his rods and reels for years. I asked him one day how many does he have and its well into the hundreds. I'd bet most of them are just parts reels which brings me to my point... John Bitter owns h
