David, casting rod. Butt guide is KW 10 followed by KW 5.5 followed by KB 5 and KT 5, 10 guides total plus tip top. I just moved the butt guide to 20" from reel ( Diawa Steez ). I started at 9 cm behind tip top and added 1 cm for first 3 guides and 1 1/2 cm for the rest, that covered all the KT and KB guides, so I ended up with 30 CM between the last KB and the KW 10, I split the differenc

Just static tested my Point Blank PB731MXF and everything looked good with 2 line test. My only question is should the line touch the top of the guide closest to the reel, Mine runs right through the center of the guide, line follows guide for the most part under tension, just wondering about that first guide or does that matter. It is 21" in front of the reel( from the line guide of the re

Is it okay to just build a small ramp with rod finish instead of using aluminum winding checks. They look nice but are expensive and add weight. Thank you.

Steve Gardner, Yeah I would not have posted it but on my account with GBO it stated backordered, which is okay, but then it stated item was not available for reorder due to no longer for sale. So I called and that's when she told me they were discontinued.

Good Point Thomas, as I do currently have separate spinning rods for both, with the drop shot being lighter just as you mentioned, so darn I will have to build 2. With that being said I rephrase my question to what would be the best for each one. Thank you

What would be your suggestion for a Point Blank Spinning rod used for shakey head and dropshotting, I would like one in 7'3" if possible. Typically use 1/8-1/4 oz shakey heads and drop shot weights. It will have 10lb braid and 8lb fluro leader.Thank you.

Hope I am not doing anything wrong by asking this question, if so please remove it, I love this forum and don't want to offend anyone. Has anyone out there put a Diawa Steez on a Point Blank rod they built, and if so how is it, Thank you.

Norman will this guide sizing work for pretty much all of my casting rods and just adjust the number of runners on length of rod, I plan to build quite a few more casting in the 7'3'' to 7'6'' range, all point blank. Also on the location of reel seat and handle, do you move the reel seat forward the longer the rod or do you keep it pretty much the same location, I built my first 2 with the butt o

Norman, If I lived close to you I'd buy you a steak dinner, assuming restaurants will ever open again. Thank you again for the info Norman, you are making my rods turn out like I was a pro and I am going to take your advice and use braid on all my reels with Fluro leaders, that will definitely be different for me, the only rod I ever used braid on was my frog rod. It worked great on the shaky hea

Can anyone give me a suggestion of guides to use and the measurements for the guide train for a Point Blank PB731MFX that i am going to build for a crankbait rod, want to use Fuji reduction system if possible. This will be a casting rod with a Lews BB1 reel and a Alps MVT reel seat, back of reel seat should be around 11-13 inches from butt of rod, so if anyone has the measurement I would need for

Thank all again, I used the micro bands and did the static testing as shown on anglers resource and as all of you mentioned it worked perfectly, I don't know why I was thinking the guides would be under pressure, DUH, only thing with pressure is the tip top and blank, I just finished my second rod, It will be 24 hours of curing at 3 pm today, and I must say it turned out nice. I am picking up tip

So I read on here the recommendation of applying a thin coat of finish before installing decals. So how long do I wait before putting the decals over the finish, Do I wait until the finish has completely cured or what. After watching a bunch of video and being my second rod I think the finish is going to turn out really good, I used the technique on the video from the gentleman from rod maker mag

I am brand new to rod building, but I just received my power wrapper/dryer combo from Alps and it is very nice, 2 4' aluminum tracks with the 2 motors and chuck attached to the left end, 3 support stands with rollers and spring lock on 2 and sliding on the other, very nice unit and way cheaper and better built than the other brand I originally purchased where the dryer and wrapper were separate a

Norman, I static tested the rod I am building today after placing the guides at the measurements you gave me and they were perfect, the line could not have followed the rod any better and looking through the guides the first 3 from the bottom made a perfect bullseye as pictured in the software guide with the choke guide just a smidge high in the ring just like pictured. I am going to wrap them to

I got one today Norman, per your recommendation. Pretty sure I got this down pat now, and you were right, much easier. 10 mm in a cm, 100 cm in a m. Got me a fatmax 8m/26' tape measure. Started framing houses when I was 19 so I am pretty good with a tape, just new to metric system but I got her know. Thank everyone for the replies. Norman would it be okay to email you about some questions I have.

Norman would that rod give me the feel I am looking for with crankbaits, in other words would I be able to feel what the crankbait is doing

I am brand new to the metric system, googled and I basically get it . I do have a question , if my rod layout calls for 91.5 cm that would be 91 cm and 5 mm correct.

Thank ya'll for the info, I was always under the impression you needed a medium power and action for crankbaits, at least by rod manufacturers standards. i guess I need to learn all the new stuff. Just want to make sure I am getting the blank that would do the best job for what I want to use it for before I invest in the blank and components

Would a Point Blank PB 731 MFX or MHF make a good picthing/casting bass rod for 17 # fluro with 1/2 oz jig or 1/4 OZ bullet wait with worm or creature bait. And for small crankbaits, KVD 1.5 type would the PB701MLF be a good choice, I need to be able to feel every turn of the handle with the crankbait rod and every wiggle of the bait, mostly with 10-12 lb fluro. Please help. Thank you.

What exactly are these and how do you measure them, what type of equipment do you need and what exactly is each one telling you about the blank, thanks.
