Appreciate the comments, Herb. I have actually been looking a lot lately at the OPST videos, site and the Commando and other lines, and educating myself on spey casting and the evolution of late in that area.

I have on hand size 12 and size 10 stripping guides in both single-foot and traditional double foot. And they each have the same height profile. I am not going for the high-profile single foot, but have PacBay SF hard wire single foots. I happened to look at 9 ft. 6 wt. St. Croix Legend Elite and Redington Hydrogen rods today in Jax Outdoors when last minute Christmas shopping. They both hav

Consult a Oija board. Then do the opposite. Ha, ha. However you decide to align your guides, on anything but a dog-poop quality, very crooked blank, I don't think most folks will know the difference when casting. If you fly lands 1/2 inch to the left or right, I doubt the trout will mind much either.

Thanks for the pointer, Herb, though I don't foresee using spey/Skagit on this rod. But you never know.

I will go with single foot then. Thanks, Tom. Do folks advise a normal wrap or use the Forhan locking wrap?

Are there durability or other issues in putting size 12 and 10 single foot stripping guides on a 6 wt fly rod? OEMs seem to use standard stripping guides or rods that feature single foot running guides. I want to go all single foot for the look.

If you are making your son a rod I would consider that he will likely use it for many years to come. I am from the East and now live in the Rocky Mountain West. I find the best all around rod to be a 9 ft. 5 wt, which can be fished on about any type of water. Or even a 9 ft. 6 wt. But I know you are thinking lighter and shorter. Also, do you want a 2 or 4 piece rod? An 8 footish 4-weigh

I have heard of some making Euro Nymph type rods into light weight switch/spey. I just wonder how the flex might be.

Tend to agree on 15-minute. 5-minute leaves no time for error and little time for adjustment. 15-min not easy to find in traditional stores.

Thanks, Spencer. Perhaps I need a 2 or 3-weight. Suggestions? What have you been fishing?

Gorilla Glue 5-min epoxy works well for me on rods and golf clubs.

Looking for a blank in the 10.5 - 11 foot range rated for standard 4 wt. line or Skagit line in 200-300 grain range for Rocky Mountain trout streams such as Madison, Yellowstone, Bitterroot, Big Hole, Blackfoot. Wet flies, nymphs, small and medium streamers, the occasional dry fly. Suggestions?

They were for sale earlier this week at Hook and Hackle -- 30% off. The Quickline series has been discontinued, so this is now PacBay's top blank. I have not seen or cast one but if you search this forum there seem to be positive comments. The brown blank color does not do it for me, but they are now offering Arctos fly blanks in a graphite/black color as well.

Yes, wire single foot, not ceramic. I do have ceramic single foot for the two stripping guides: #12 and #10. All the others are wire single foot.

I am wrapping a Eternity2 9 foot 6 wt, 4-piece fly rod. I have a single foot guide set of: 1 size 12 stripping; 1 size 10 stripping; 1 size 4; 1 size 3; 2 size 2; 4 size 1. These are the sizes recommended by Batson on their web site. Some suggest one should go up a size or two for single foot. Are the size 1 singe foot too small for this rod?

My bad, James! Damn. I of course stand corrected, as I meant to say Batson/Alps and not PACBay. My apologies to your fine company for my confusion. I do love the looks of the Alps Triangle reel seat. Stunning. Maybe single nut version in the future for us 3-6 weight trout anglers. By the way, I just purchased one of your Rainshadow Eternity2 fly rod blanks. Wrapping it up next week.

Thanks, that's what i thought. I wish there were one for that size as well. They must make a special and smaller one for Epic fly rods.

PacBay recommends the triangle reel seat for size 8-12 rods. I am building a 6 weight. Has anyone used them on 5 or 6 weight rods, or are they just to beefy and heavy?

Rainshadow and Rodgeeks are both excellent blanks. I doubt you would be disappointed in either. Why not make both and compare?! If you want a custom color, Rodgeeks can provide that. I think you will be pleased with either.

Good luck, Aleks. Glad you engaged the members of the forum, regardless of where they fall out on the topic. Consumers and folks often yap about the need to buy American, but many will simply purchase based on a price point. For many consumers goods, you can't have it both ways. It generally costs more to produce in the U.S. for most consumer goods. If the origin of a product is a key factor

As one who works for a Fortune 500 American manufacturer, i witness the constant pressures of customer service and foreign competition every day. For a smaller manufacturer, those pressures are even more difficult to deal with. Just look at St. Croix. Basically pulled out of the DIY U.S. made blank business this year, a necessary business decision. If you look at many U.S. fly rod companies r

I would suggest seeing if the supplier would sell you a new butt section. Even if you repair some how the rod will not perform properly not the two pieces fit properly together. Bummer.

Who knows if they have issues or not, but a few things might be in play. NFC is probably a fairly small company and likely does not maintain a lot of inventory on their blanks. With NFC you are buying direct from the manufacturer vs a re-seller/distributor who might keep some inventory. Blanks to the public might be a very small part of their business overall. Not making excuses for them. T

Team Mudhole: With the demise and sell off of Quickline, is PacBay coming out with a new fly rod blank line? Is the Arctos line toast as well?
