I don’t believe I can mention non-sponsors on here but do a google search “carbon fiber tubing” and many options will appear, many more options than rod building sites offer.

Winding checks can be reamed, but if they’re metal and colored you’ll remove that coating reveling the metal. If you’re using a silver, you won’t be able to tell. On the new Fuji TCH real seat I had to reduce the O.D. of a metal winding check to get the threaded hood onto the barrel. I used 2000 grit wet sandpaper and a silver winding check so that it isn’t noticeable. Better to order a half s

I got a new Fuji reel seat, but I couldn’t find a hood cover that fit so I had to improvise with some carbon tubing.

I’m no expert but I also lightly sand grips to get them square using the same method David described. I use a small 3” plastic level and/or a combination square to gauge my progress. I cut off excess threads on the reel seats so I’ll square this up too. You’ll always have a visible connection point but by squaring the components you’ll eliminate large gaps.

Nice job on the handle removal. I have a rod or two I’d like to strip down just haven’t found the time yet. I may have to use those techniques myself. I have a rod with the same situation (too long of a handle) I just don’t use it any more because it feels weird and I have better built rods to use. I like to do my math trick (multiply the rod length by 6) to determine handle length for my fresh

This conversation reminds me of a time when I was at a sporting goods store wasting time in the golf simulator. After swinging many different clubs the sales rep steered me towards a starter set and said I wouldn’t see any benefits of the newest top-self, titanium headed, carbon fiber shafted, Rolls Royce of clubs until I put in the hours and learn how to swing a club. Same principles apply to

Thank you for the encouraging feedback and helpful tips! This was the first time I tried a standalone three turn trim band, and I had them really nice and snug before I applied the epoxy. They loosened up after application and I don’t have the experience/confidence to start fooling around during the epoxy process. I did apply a dab of glue on the tag ends to hold that section in place but obvio

Al - Half joking but my method is to divide the rod length by 6 for a general purpose rod. For rods I’ll impart action too (walking, popping, twitch, etc.) I’ll divide by 8. This gives me pretty much perfect placement.

To add, this is the first time I used the 3 chokes + high belly guide. The distance I was reaching with little effort casting this 3/16oz lure amazed me.

This recommendation from Fujj shows the pictured guide train will handle PE 2 (40lbs) braid and a 25lbs mono leader. To comment on casting distance, I just finished a 7’10” RODgeeks C3710MMF using a guide train of 25H-12H-7M-6L-5.5 runners. I was effortlessly casting 130’ in my back yard using a 3/16oz Megabass Karashi twitch bait. I’m sure if my yard was longer with less trees I could easily a

A few guys on here are creating an extensive CCS data log that provides number ratings for the action and power of a rod no matter who the manufacturer is. I suggest doing the CCS testing on your rods that you’d like to match and find similar numbers on the data log.

Real choice definitely makes a difference. My latest spinning rod I substituted a Shimano Stradic FL 3000 to mockup the guides while waiting on the Daiwa Procyon LT MQ 3000 that will be used on that rod. I used the manual steps for the KR Concept to place the butt guide and the angle difference between brands moved the butt guide about 1 1/4 inches up the blank, moving the rest of the reduction t
