Amazing help from everyone. Thank you so much.
I intend to use the rod for inshore Redfish, Trout and Snook. I have never built a split grip rod before, and I do like the way they look. But I'm much more concerned with function. Does a split grip design have any functional advantage/disadvantage for an inshore rod?

About the second part of my inquiry....diagnosing trouble spots (if they exist) when testing your work. What things are you looking for, and how are you tweaking the set up to try to eliminate the trouble? I hear a lot about "line
