Amazing help from everyone. Thank you so much. I intend to use the rod for inshore Redfish, Trout and Snook. I have never built a split grip rod before, and I do like the way they look. But I'm much more concerned with function. Does a split grip design have any functional advantage/disadvantage for an inshore rod?

About the second part of my inquiry....diagnosing trouble spots (if they exist) when testing your work.
